Am I missing something is there anything in the DJ Go 4 App that tells you which what the drone is facing?

That little round radar display at the lower-left of the screen will do that, but only on larger displays; my Nexus 7 tablet (7" display) doesn't show it. DJI decided we weren't allowed to make the decision about whether or not to show it.

Litchi displays it.

I suspect you're correct, but I'm sure you'll hear from other IP7 owners who could confirm.

Tap on the upper right corner of the small window that shows radar/maps to toggle between radar and maps view.

I use an iphone 7 plus and use the radar on the bottom left of screen. You'll have to tap on the target-looking-icon (top right of small PIP on bottom left) to switch from map view to radar view.
