Israelis take Apple to court for slowing iPhones in $125mn lawsuit as number of cases snowball Israelis take Apple to court for slowing iPhones in $125mn lawsuit as number of cases snowball

Apple is getting sued left and right for firmware updates slowing performance of iphones post sales.

Since DJI CEO often praise or at least seem to want to aspire to model after Apple business model,

what implications are there for or against DJI pushing firmware updates to gradually reduce the performance of its drones post-sales?

Which features have been reduced in performance post-sales?

every one wants to sue apple, since they have so much $$$. There is too much feeling of entitlement in this world.

Lol, invented by Bill Gates. Prior to Microsoft Surface, Microsoft was primarily a software company and didn’t require firmware upgrades. Even if you include Xbox to the mix, it is a fraction of the products in their portfolio so no, you can’t blame BG for inventing Firmware.

Nope, if Intel developed a processor, it was only able to cope with the current Window version. Every new update (everything after XP) was too demanding for the current Intel processor. So, the processor ran behind the window version.

I can’t believe this lawsuit is even being allowed. Apple sent the updates through to slow down the phones, because the aging batteries can’t keep up with the cpu inside. Cell phone batteries have an 18 month average lifetime. These phones that are impacted are lucky to be functional at all. If you want to have a perfectly functional 2+ year old phone, get a new battery.

They're suing because Apple was not up front about what they were doing and why. And the reason they tried to hide it is because they knew if they admitted the reason they were doing it is because the phones would likely start shutting down as the batteries aged, it would have impacted current and future sales.

Yeah but anyone with common sense should know that batteries don’t last forever and phones older than 2 years would have problems because of it.

Firstly nobody else does that so it's not something you could reasonably expect.
Secondly, and what really matters is that beyond just hiding it Apple have plain lied about it since they have been previously denying any such practice.

Uh huh. Sure thing.

Chinese company vs. US. Don't think so and doubt that the Apple one will stick.

I wonder if this has any correlation to the numerous threads here about CPU Overload messages popping up mid-flight on iPhones...?

Lets asume they did this out the goodness of their hearts.
Why didnt they just make it easier and cheaper to fit their phones with new batteries.
Problem is Apple -and other companies - do this sort of thing then try and keep it a secret, then wonder why there is a back lash when they get found out- which they always do-

Apple is likely full of very bright people, shame they dont run these sort of things passed some of them before doing this sort of thing and just hoping no one will ever find out :D

Even with that definition Bill Gates cannot be blamed for firmware.

Because Firmware is written by hardware manufacturers not software houses like Microsoft.

Given that Apple systems are closed architecture, Apple owns end to end operations of their systems, from firmware to the OS and drivers, which in not the case with PCs. Microsoft own Windows, if it is desktop hen hardware could be owned by many different companies like motherboard, NICs, video card etc. each has its own firmware and driver.

I was thinking the same thing!

I checked my iPhone 6s in CPU Dasher X and it's running at half the expected frequency... I'm sure I'd get less CPU warnings if I replaced the battery...

Normally, all that happens is shorter battery life. No reasonable person expects the phone to start shutting off with an 80% charge or for the manufacturer to throttle the cpu without telling you.

apparently Apple execs can face jail time if convicted of this crime in some jurisdictions.
