Dangerous Drone Flying

Thanks Chris, I'll be full time in Canada next year when I move so very useful.

Thats the hope UK is a little crowded....

I also find it amazing that so many people are either ignorant of, or are simply ignoring, the rules and regulations. Flying over a 'Thanksgiving' parade, in the middle of Chicago / New York / somewhere in the 'State, then laughs about how the 'cops' pounced on him and told him to stop. Then the idiot posts it all on YT. Or the fool who decided to see if he could film ABOVE the clouds (about 3,500 feet altitude), stating it's safe because there's '...hardly any aircraft that fly near here....'. Then he lost control, ran out of battery, had no idea where the thing was (it was above the bloody clouds!), it fell and landed in a tree - just next to a pavement with kids playing on it, no doubt. Then HE posts the whole thing on YT! Here in the UK there are clearly defined rules and regulations but, amazingly, very few are bothering to stick to them. Even a club that I belong to has 'members' who post blatant infringements of the rules, just to show their footage. I fear this will end badly for all of us.

Totally agree.
Just report on the links I gave above. Unfortunately I think it is going to be self policing for the hobby rather than any official monitoring. However, if you give them as much detail as possible along with YT links at least they can either send a cease and desist letter, or gather more evidence and prosecute.

Let the authorities do their job ! They know what YouTube is and they most certainly educated with the internet and google.
The more people pester the authorities on the issue the more they are screwing the industry itself. Why because they will simply put everyone under the same umbrella with regards to more laws and bans.

The law is there for a purpose and pests pestering them insult their intelligence .

So ridiculous ! Came to the photo shoot to read or view footage and see this same stupid topic .. stop policing the world there are police or law officers out there ! Sheesh

Which part of the topic 'Dangerous Drone Footage' are you confused about?

This.

Stop being so concerned with what other people are doing.

I think policing something you love so it's not damaged isn't a bad thing. In fact I'm happy to report anyone that puts things I love, whether its my community, family or hobby. The selfish pilots with little regard for the hobby should have the privileged removed.

The resources in the UK especially regarding monitoring all the social media channels or forums is limited hence the requests by the CAA to 'whistleblow'.

Most authorities around the world rely on individuals reporting to them any illegal activity - this is no different. Since these idiots usually like to have a trophy on YT this gives some indisputable evidence to hang them with. :)

Good then report it , shut up and move on.. authories have far more pressing issues to face than some pestering old guys and their little toy drones rattling and tattling to the law on every time someone even farts.,.... Think about the issues faced with the airline industry nowadays, drunk pilots, pilots and first officers being overworked.. flying hundreds of passengers everyday... thats an issue... Its like the cell phone ban use while driving.. we see it being abused everyday... guess what.. eventually those people will learn the hard way.. because the authorities will catch up to them.. Let the authorities do their job !!! If you dont like what you see then dont watch it... Its like Porn.. its there but not everyone watches it ;)

Actually, yeah I've changed my mind screw it lets all ignore it.... whats the worst that could happen... a drone drawn into a jet engine while on approach at about 100 metres from the runway... not our problem...

If I see someone flying unsafely or when they post a youtube video, I'll explain to them that they are in the wrong, and jeopardizing our hobby. I think reporting it to the authorities only makes things worse. Pilots hate us, and will look for any excuse to get us banned. Even for us hobbyists that obey the laws, we are still scrutinized and attacked due to ignorant public that feels that every single drone in the air is a spy drone.

I'm with you.

Self-policing is the best way. Try and take people with you by calmly explaining the issues, the dangers and the wider implications. Antagonising individuals and/or the authorities for every incident real or perceived will just be another step towards harsher regulations.

By all means if there is someone doing runway approach fly bys then yes, definitely worthy of an official report. Someone breaching 400 ft ceiling (unwittingly) in middle of nowhere, then a quiet word.

Biggest idiot I have seen was someone from a "Freeman" type organisation winding up the authorities by flying near a prison. Taking pleasure, not in drone flying, but in getting an argument with the Police.

I have also learned that when confronted with a hostile observer, the best thing to do is immediately land, and pack your stuff up and go. I love the mavic, because most of the time, and ignorant hostile person more than likely will not even notice you. When I had my phantom, I'd have people approach me before I even got it up in the air. Setup time takes twice the amount of time with a phantom.
