Delay Notification from DHL for Air3S, Requesting SSN

Received a notification from DJI last eve stating my shipment has been placed on temporary hold. They are requesting two pieces of information: 1)Line Item Tariff info and 2) my SSN. Has anyone else, waiting on an order, received similar? Haven't done anything with it yet... Not too thrilled about tossing my SSN number out.
I would never give anyone my SSN over the internet. What is 'Line Item Tariff info'?

The moment the Social Security number is needed marks it as a total scam... Just delete the email. If you don't get the drone then call your credit card company and cancel the entire charge.

I would still check with DHL, but if this shipment is coming through DHL, the request for your SSN or EIN may be legitimate. DHL shipped high value equipment from the UK to my company in the US. They were required to have my SSN or my company's EIN for the shipment to pass through US Customs.

The line-Item tariff information (Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification) should have been supplied by the shipper. I have to provide that information when I export equipment valued over $2,500.

So, do they ship each one of these from China? Don't they have warehouses in us?

Yes, these are all coming from China. DJI is having a hard time shipping items in bulk to the U.S. It's also why the AIr 3S isn't for sale at retailers and the Neo has limited availability at stores.

I just checked with DHL by live chat. This is what they said about social security number;

"I apologize, I totally understand your concern. To comply with US regulations we will need additional information from you to clear your package. US Customs is requesting your SSN or Tax ID before they will release your shipment. We will keep your information secure and only release it to US customs for clearance purposes.

it is required by Customs for formal entry shipment clearance."

Some countries are on an approved list but not China I guess

It’s very interesting why some are being asked for that additional information while for others, their drone gets delivered to them with no issues. At least three members in the US have had their deliveries today with zero problems.

My Air 3s was scheduled to be delivered yesterday. Now it is 'on hold' at DHL Delivery Facility BOCA RATON - USA. Interestingly, the DHL site indicated 'Clearance processing complete at MIAMI GATEWAY - USA' which I assumed meant it had cleared US Customs.

Hopefully, it will be sent out for delivery today, if not, I will try to call DHL to find out why it is 'on hold'.

I noticed another poster indicating that their Air 3s was 'on hold' but was ultimately delivered. Hopefully it was just a hand off issue with the local carrier.

Where does it show the “on hold” status? My drone was also not delivered yesterday despite (1) a delivery date of Monday, (2) being in the delivery hub since Sunday morning, and (3) clearing US customs before it departed the LA gateway and arrived to my local delivery hub in Van Nuys. But I have no holds or anything and my delivery date is simply now showing As Tuesday, October 22. Though, it is still not out for delivery yet, as of 7am.

I'm not sure any legit request would require an SSN. Are you sure the notification was from DJI/DHL?

FWIW, I get text messages like this every month (at least) requesting similar type information for "packages held by USPS". None of them were legit.

Yeah... don't you just love it when you get one of those scam notices for something you didn't buy from Amazon? Just go to this URL to get it released.

Yeah, right.

Just got it tonight.IMG_2559.jpeg

Update from post #17.
Parked in Phoenix (100 miles north of home point) for 4 days. Tracking just today changed to “on hold”.
Attempting to acquire information from DHL is essentially a waste of time after reading their canned answers.
Not really a big deal. I’ve learned over the years to not be in a hurry with anything DJI.

They didn't want just my SSN, but pictures of the front and back of the card. Why?

Harassment via government corruption.

DJI is disfavored at the moment, a lot of lies are being propagated, among them the idea that DJI which manufactures exclusively in Shenzen is using Uyghur slaves to build product in Xinjiang.

Add to this the gobsmacking lie that the Chinese government recieves the live feed from all DJI drones when flying, stated on Sunday Morning Futures 2 weeks ago by Maria Bartiromo and verified by Senator Ron Johnson, WI, being interviewed.

Pure fiction.

The legislative and regulatory attacks on DJI are being justified on the basis of provable falsehoods. I sm so ashamed and frustrated by our federal government in the US.

Especially when they've got it so wrong. The slaves are being used for selfie testing with the neo. And the job satisfaction among the slaves, what with the field trips to Beijing to get all the cool selfie shots with skyscrapers and fountains is rather high. 😁
