Hi guys, I hope it’s the correct forum - DJI forum is useless. It’s my second time flying and the DJI flip camera keeps shaking. It’s as if the gimbal is not even working. I did not crash it or anything. What’s weird is that if I hold it in my hand the gimbal seems to work. But I also get gimbal overloaded error messages before even starting the flight and before I flew the first time I tried to calibrate it and it failed at 50%. So I’m thinking either I got a lemon from the factory or I maybe pressed or touched the gimbal when handling it? But I tried to be gentle. Have attached a video…

You haven't accidentally turned the gimbal operation mode to FPV mode?

From the user manual...

I’ll have a look but even so to me it seems like the gimbal is completely disabled. Even when I tried the automatic palm take off modes, dronie, follow, helix etc it’s as if the gimbal isn’t even turned on. I also get a yellow gimbal overloaded error messages and y axis limit reached. But as I said, I got a gimbal calibration failure even before my first flight. So either there’s a failure from the factory or I pressed the gimbal too hard when unboxing it or something. But it’s difficult to believe as I was gentle with everything. I attached screenshots of more failures. Tried both remote controller and phone control too.

Ok. Just ran some more tests and it appears it’s only a Y axis issue. Is it really possible I may have pressed it too accidently hard when unboxing or when I initially powered on the drone? Anyway if I really really gently push the camera up or down it’s showing resistance, but on the Y axis it’s just wobbling freely without any resistance so I assume I assume maybe it’s a loose cable or something.

Shame because I’m in the beautiful tatra mountains in Poland and wanted to film some cool shots. Oh well, maybe it’s a sign from god to enjoy nature instead of worrying about the drone lol.
I'd immediately return it for a replacement.
Too many issues for a brand new drone.

In the meantime, you can stabilize some of the issues in post in Premiere Pro which will cropping into the image frame, so shoot wide!

Not really ...I suppose its possible BUT you would have to be pretty rough Although not Bulletproof your Drone will take some abuse.. If you are no able to get everything to Calibrate you should contact DJI.
How are you Calibrating this Drone and where?

Where did you buy it from?
Currys online store UK. Not sure whether it’s better to request a warranty repair with DJI or just return / replace it. Also, on the 5% off chance it’s my fault, is it better to buy the DJI Care Refesh? I’m still within the 48 hours since first use. I’m worried they’ll try to blame it on me and I’ll end up spending more than the cost of the refresh.

Just the normal in app automatic gimbal calibration. It failed at 50% even before I first used the drone so I assume it fails when it gets to the Y axis calibration. I was really gentle with it but still worried there’s a 5% chance maybe I pushed it too hard when putting on the plastic gimbal protector or something like that. Anyway I will have w think if it’s better to contact DJI for warranty repair or get a refund / replacement from CURRYS UK store.

As I said above, not sure whether it’s worth buying the DJI REFRESH in case they try to blame it on me. I’m still within the 48 hour registration period.

Many users worry about that at first..Just use care when putting on the cover I have never heard of someone breaking a gimble by putting on the cover its possible tho.
DJI wont blame you lol.
If i were you I would send it in for replacement. DO NOT calibrate in your home!! its not gonna work around all that metal and concrete!

I was looking at buying the Air 3s from Curry’s because they offered care plan but were out of stock so bought it at Argos. Think Currys offer the care plan on pretty much everything including drones.

Did you go down that route? How long ago did you buy it?

Currys are pretty good at exchanging if faulty.

Didn’t go down any route yet. Got it a few days ago, first used it yesterday on my trip. Retried today and same issue with gimbal - so still trying to decide whether to take out DJI refresh plan for around £40 by the end of tonight (within 48 hours of first use) they replace it if you damage it (worried they will say I broke it somehow rather than do warranty replacement.) OR return it to currys when I return OR contact DJI directly for repair. I will have a hard think :))

Tried calibrating it indoors and outdoors. I think the calibration failure is related to ongoing gimbal y axis issues. So yeah, I need a big hard think whether to directly replace / return it with currys or contact DJI directly. And whether it’s worth getting the extra car plan in case there’s a rare chance they say I damaged it. I’m having a lot of bad luck recently so worried they’ll say I broke it and will be out of pocket for repairs. Anyway thanks for your opinion.

Unless you threw it at a wall and broke it DJI wont ask really they will simply replace it. You may get a faster remedy from the Currys place its up to you Whatever you decide I am SURE DJI WILL REPLACE IT AND NOT BLAME YOU!

When do you return to the UK? Have you done any firmware updates since purchasing a few days ago?
Next Sunday I’m back in UK. Will be within 14 days statutory period anyway. And yes latest firmware. Let’s hope currys replaces / accepts a return.
