Just reading through another post about Lipo bags and it got me wondering.
I have seen a few Lipo Battery fires over the years, even deliberately caused a couple as a demo to show how easy it can happen and how much energy is in one of these batteries.
But I’ve never seen nor heard of one of the DJI smart batteries bursting into flames.

Have seen reports of 'swelling' - but no fires.

Its the nature of the beast, treat a battery with the care it deserves and you shouldn’t have a problem but if you abuse them things can go tragically wrong.

One of the crash threads here had one member who said he crashed his, battery popped out, and it caught fire, starting a mini fire on the ground around it.
From memory he managed to put it out.
This was in the past month.

Only instance I've seen or heard from someone more or less first hand.

There are many news articles that come up about iPhones etc just bursting into flames, similar fashion, a flare up, lots of smoke, and then flame.
This has happened when in peoples pockets !!
I myself have had to take my phone out of my pants pocket, when I've felt it get quite uncomfortably hot.

EDIT - a quick search, this post Drone crash - what did I do? in relation to the actual crash of the thread title.

I've seen a couple of such threads, here and elsewhere, including a few with videos. For an actual fire to result it does seem like the battery has to suffer physical damage, or at the very least a severe impact as might happen in a crash, but otherwise DJI's batteries only seem to suffer from swelling when the fail. They'll also get warm and might temporarily swell slightly if they are left on the shelf for 10 days, triggering the automatic self-discharge to 50% capacity.

Whatever smart safety/power control features DJI is putting in their LIPOs, they seem to be working pretty well.
