DJI Neo (a new 149 gram drone)

Thanks to the Avata 2, I have the FPV and MC3 so I am good with just the combo. Can’t wait to see how easy (or not) it is to switch between them. Looking at it like that it is appearing to be a smoking hot deal at $289. Try buying a Pico Pavo with 3 batteries with an 03 digital system for that? And with the Pico you get 4 minutes of flight time.

O4 dude, O4 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

A very good question! The RC-N2 has O4 so what possible difference will the N3 have?
I can buy the NEO here in Canada and have it tomorrow and I do have the RC-N2 already (in fact I updated DJI Fly on the phone I use to fly my mini 4 pro with and it did say support for the RC-N2 as well as the RC2. The NEO is now in the connection list. Still gonna wait abit to see what bugs it has before I buy...

The RC-N3 is reported to be totally identical to the RC-N2 but has a reduced internal battery capacity, likely to reduce the cost to DJI.

Mine arrived yesterday, and it's a blast. An absolute bargain for £165. So easy to get in the air. I used my RC2 with it and just had fun flying.

Do members think this could lead to further rules and regulations being introduced?

I ask as I don't imagine new pilots seeing the Neo in a shop window will realise the restrictions that are in place and what you need to do to fly legally and safely, i can see these new pilots treating them as a fancy toy that can take pictures and video in the air and they will use them without looking into the legal side of things.

I suspect that most Neo buyers will be folks who see the Neo as just a glorified selfie stick.

They'll have no concept of it as an aircraft and will most likely not even be remotely aware of regulations or a TRUST certificate. Some change in regulations is inevitable.

There is no way a million content providers are going to take the US required TRUST test or gain LAANC authorization to fly a selfie drone toy in controlled airspace or register with the FAA if they use it for commercial purposes.

I don't live in the USA so could you tell me what are the minimum amount of hoops you have to jump through to fly a sub 249g drone legally in your country.

The rules for flying drones are all the same for all drone regardless of how much they weight with the only exception being drones under 250g flown for recreational purposes only are not required to be registered with the FAA. Other that that, you have commercial drones vs. recreational drones and that's about it. For the most part, the rules on how they are flown are similar and then there are waivers, etc.

Everyone has to have a part 107 license to fly a drone in the US unless you fly under the exception which means you fly strictly for fun (i.e. no commercial flying). Take the TRUST trust and register your drone if it is over 250g and that's it (you will not need a part 107 license to fly recreational).

To answer your question directly, if you fly a sub 249g drone for recreational only in the US, just take the TRUST test and you are good to go as long as you follow the rules (that you learned from TRUST).

Thanks, in the UK we don't have to take a test to fly sub 249g we have to have an Operator ID but that's it.

I think retailers should have some responsibility to educate consumers when they purchase a drone. Otherwise, a lot of people will think it's just like buying a camera and that they can do what they want with it.

I used my Neo with my Avata2 Goggles and Stick Controller yesterday, and it can go at some pace. Enough to hurt someone if it hit them in the face. But, if people just use the Neo without a controller, and use the buttons on the drone, or the app, it won't get up to enough speed to injure anyone. Maybe that's where the rules need changing.

Just a note of caution.... The Neo is a gateway drone. I had so much fun with it that I ended up buying an Avata2 with the Goggles. I've never had any interest in FPV and I mostly use my drones for still photography, but it's so much fun.

I can find the answer to this anywhere. What happens if the 22GB on board memory dies? Can it be replaced and how would that be done?
