"DJI Viewer" - new software for DJI drone video playback

Great software- but DJI, like most chinese developers, will probably rip you off. I hope you protected it. Just ask the guy who had the North American license for DJI.

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to gauge interest in new software I developed, tentatively called “DJI Viewer”.

Sounds like a great program to have for drone owners! I'd get some legal advice before choosing a name that looks so much like it might be official DJI software though. (Unless youydo make some deal with DJI). It could land you in hot water, and also it'd be better to use a name that identifies you or your company for your own future reputation. If you're using such a generic name it becomes difficult to differentiate yourself from other programs and apps and makes searching for and finding your program or app much more difficult Not being critical just offering food for thought . Good luck and add another me too if you're looking for beta testers.

I think it has a lot of potential, you have done a good job. I would buy a copy. Does it have the ability to use a csv file generated from the AC onboard flyxxx.dat files? I fly many waypoint missions where radio signal is lost, so the RC or app flight data is in complete.

Like the design, why would you want DJI to market it?
Why not drive it your self ?
It seems good enough to sell it self let it loose in the forum at a price.

Very interesting. Good job. I'm sure the line for beta testers has already formed.
Hi Everyone,

I am trying to gauge interest in new software I developed, tentatively called “DJI Viewer”. This software allows you to view your drone videos in a whole new way.

For more detailed information, see our cookies page.

While your movie is playing you can see your drone's position update on a Google Map. You can geotag key positions in the video and jump back to them instantly. You can click on your route in the Map View to jump immediately to that point in the movie. You can export portions of your videos to separate clips, or export just a single geotagged frame. DJI Viewer has multiple views including graphs of your drone's speed, altitude, distance, and bearing. Imperial and metric units are supported. The software has been localized for Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese. And, importantly, DJI Viewer runs on both macOS and Windows computers. It is compatible with the SRT data files produced by the Mavic Pro, Phantom 3, Phantom 4 and possibly other DJI drones. Applications include surveying, oil and gas research, search and rescue, archeology, geography, and just plain fun.

I believe it would make a useful companion-application to the family of DJI drones. I'm hoping that DJI will endorse, support, or best of all, license the software for all DJI customers. If you think it would be useful please let me (and DJI) know. I haven't released it yet.

Here are the main features:
  • Zoomable, translatable, resizable movie view
  • “Real time” display of drone's location on a Map
  • Automatically center map on vehicle, or keep map fixed
  • Drone route color-coded by speed
  • Click on drone's map route to jump to that position in movie
  • Heads-up display of current date, time, speed, distance, position, and bearing
  • Heads-up display of altitude and Satellites-in-View
  • Speedometer display of speed
  • Compass display of direction
  • Weather widget for retrieving weather conditions at the location and time of movie
  • Graphs of speed, distance, altitude, bearing, and satellites-in-View
  • Click on vehicle’s Graph trace to jump to that position in movie
  • Autoscale Graph views
  • Geotag points of interest and instant jump to those points in the movie sequence
  • Import and export Geotags to a file
  • “Real time” display of drone's line-of-sight distance from geotagged points
  • Movie List view shows drone's top speed in each movie
  • Remove uninteresting movies from the various views
  • Export sections of movies to separate movie files
  • Combine multiple movies into a single large movie
  • Variable playback speed control
  • Jump to fastest part of route instantly
  • Jump to any loaded movie instantly
  • Slider controls for switching between movies
  • Info display of movie file name, file size, and frame rate
  • Drag and drop loading of movies
  • Drag and drop loading of movie directories
  • GPS data export to CSV, KML, and GPX file formats
  • GPS data import of GPX file format
  • Export current movie window to JPG or PNG file
  • Auto-load movie directory upon start-up
  • Click to reveal currently-playing movie in Finder/Explorer
  • Support for kph or mph units
  • Support for timezone biasing
  • Documented keyboard and mouse shortcuts
  • Support for internet proxy server connection
  • User-selectable language support: English, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese
  • Users Manual

Thanks!

Good Work! I can say being in the Market for Editing Software I really like the forethought you put into this. I am interested! Useing the P4P/P4P V-2 platform daily I get great results but also spend a lot of time in post production, this would be a awesome time saver with the benefit of so much additional information...

.... Does it have the ability to use a csv file generated from the AC onboard flyxxx.dat files? I fly many waypoint missions where radio signal is lost, so the RC or app flight data is in complete.
. You still get a SRT file written regardless of signal loss so no need for the dat files.

Does DJI have any viewing or editing capabilities on computer operating systems? Throw in some LUT’s and the ability to cut and join video.

I’d buy it. Where do you download it from?

I've been wondering why DJI doesn't do something like that in final video. When I look at my videos, it would be great to see the date, time, altitude, speed, distance, etc in the video. But you could have the option of removing that info if making a "scenic" video.

Awesome!!! Congratulations!!! Great job!! Very useful for all pilots.

First of all...Kudos!

It is not everyday that we see truly useful software being proposed. The scope and flexibility is nothing short of amazing.

Also, I might be wrong and my search not having been exhaustive enough, but your SW is the first I see addressing a basic need I have and for which had yet to find a practical solution.

The video files generated by my Mavic are humongous (...for an amateur...) with the bulk being of no interest to me for archival purposes. I tried to find a practical SW solution to just make savable "raw" short clips of the interesting few minutes of the otherwise very long, boring takes so I can dump the remaining parts but to no avail.

The "export clips", as shown in your presentation video, together with the ability to fast cull by video progress strip and/or geographical position is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. Furthermore, the whole package seems like the perfect companion to the image side of this hobby of ours and it is also clearly obvious shown how the professional vector of it may be catered for by the SW..

I understand that, if attainable, a deal with DJI might be much more profitable but it might be a time consuming endeavor, with other risks associated.

Wouldn't you consider going to market with this all by yourself, under a "incremental-licensing according to updates" model?

Rich Meston, the guy behind Reikan's Focal - a software designed for automatic and semi-automatic calibration of autofocus in DSLRs - distributes his software under that model (the license is only valid for so many interactions/upgrade versions of the SW) so perhaps you could contact him for pointers on this particular approach.

[email protected]

I, for one, would buy this in heartbeat for a reasonable price. In the meanwhile, maybe you want to create a mailing list for progress updates and commercial purposes?

All the best and, again, congratulations. Thumbswayup

MK

(PS: Are The MOV clips exports non-converted "raw" footage, i.e, the exact same information contained in the original section between the cuts?)
