Flying commerically in NYC

Hi all,

Apologies if this is discussed elsewhere...if it is, please link me!. Anyway, I live in Brooklyn, but usually only get my drone out when I am going to Utah/SW. From what I gather, flying locally is near imposssible except in Flushing Corona park, etc. I do see projects for drone pilots from time to time in the city. I am wondering how is this done? Is it just done illegally? Or does one get an exception from the city for each project? I may be getting to get my 107 soon and its probably covered there but the answer may impact my decision to get the cert. Any wisdom would be appreciated!

There are a few other City Parks where you can fly ...one is being used right now to house new arrivals to the City...but there are 2 in Brooklyn and one on Staten Island....check out videos by @projectarjun he has posted some great stuff he did legally in NYC
