Geo Zones not accurate

Thanks for the reply.
I'm starting to understand, the airports blanket type map locally, threw me.

This still has me scratching my head though (why would I need authorization if it isn't restricted?) ;

That's surface Class D controlled airspace - you need authorization to fly there:

ALL controlled airspace requires authorization from FAA, whether through LAANC or dronezone.
Besides TFRs and NOTAMs, everything else are advisories. DJI attempts to mimic facilities map and TFRs as much as they can, putting more emphasis on NFZs along flight paths and very close proximity to airports, with different degrees of warnings for everything else. It used to be they only did circles but they changed it to other geometric shapes to get in closer to the actual boundaries.
Do they make mistakes? Sure.

One weird change they made was to remove the flight path restriction over my house which is actually legitimate based on facilities map. On a practical scale it's too restrictive but my beef would be with FAA, not DJI. However even when the DJI NFZ was in place, I could self unlock as it was a blue zone. The trick was to attempt motor start anyway, then you get the unlock procedure.

So, we cannot go by the "Flight Restriction Information" available within app? That's what I'm starting to gather here.

Sorry if I seem dense, I'm just splitting hairs as to not foul up.

I am in need of a newer phone, starting to get limited with space and had put off installing kittyhawk as I wasn't really sure what it did.
So, made room, installed kittyhawk and can just get approved. From what I understand if you're in uncontrolled airspace area, KittyHawk/LAANC won't even work.
That's easier, if the app doesn't work, it's not needed. *sigh* lol
32g of room on a celly doesn't go far. My next will be at least 128g internal.

The DJI app catches most controlled airspace as warning (just a warning), authorization (self-authorization), altitude (fixed height limit) or restricted zones (custom unlock), but only restricted zones require evidence of FAA authorization to unlock. The fact that you can start the motors and fly does not mean that it is legal to do so.

I hear ya. My HTC 10 is getting seriously cramped. Installing the whopper Fly app didn't help matters.

To expand, the true authority is up to date sectional maps. FAA improved things for us in providing LAANC and facilities map but even those are not foolproof.

Eventually DJI will incorporate LAANC into their app as they are an approved provider.

In terms of controlled airspace, yes, but the FAA facilities map includes some UAV-specific restrictions that are not on the sectionals.
