I have had my M2Z for over one year now and on several occasions I have taken off with the gimbal cover in place. So far no apparent damage has been done. Has anyone suffered damage to the gimbal mechanism by accidentally doing the same thing?
I must come up with a simple way to remind myself to remove it before flying. The reason that I don’t notice the cover is because I always have the rear of the drone facing me.

I believe it affects the cooling too if you fly with it on, so make it part of your preflight that once the arms are extended, you always look at the camera and remove the cover. Best to put some sort of long tape on it though, as has been suggested. If you are forgetting that, what other things might you be forgetting? Battery fully charged, Card in the slot? You need to get yourself disciplined and start using a pre-flight check list.

Here's what I did:
Put a piece of brightly colored tape over the front of the cover that will make it impossible for the camera to see anything. The bright color should get your attention when setting up. But if it doesn't, then when you're ready to takeoff you won't see the camera view on your display. You (should by then) realize something's wrong and then discover the cover is still on.

I do like Viking's idea though, also.

I do have a check list for leaving home with all my gear. However where I fly I just set everything up and take off. Perhaps I will need a second (pre-flight) check list as you suggest.

My wife has just given me a red ribbon to attach to the lens cover.

Good gimbal covers simply are NOT transparent. There is no reason why the should be.

Very satisfied with my PolarPro one. Best one I ever had.
Can't find a non transparent gimbal cover for my M2Z?

Drill a small hole in the cover and ”tag” it with this.

I used super glue on mine. [emoji3]

Black duct tape will do.

I used bright pink rescue tape on my gimbal clamp, been on about 2 years now, still there.
After you fit this it’s impossible to take off with gimbal clamp (and cover) on.
It’s also just 2nd nature to remove it as you unpack to fly once you do it a dozen times.
No harm in the tape or ribbon though.
