People can attack you with fists. There's been plenty of people who have been killed by punches/kicks. In that scenario the bigger/stronger person will always win. Weapons are an equalizer across age/health/size.

It just amazes me that pepper spray gets you 14 years in jail

Yup, they just die. But that’s preferred to a citizen having the audacity to defend himself, nicht wahr?

But then, for examples, the homicide rate for the US in 2015 was 4.9 per 100,000 of population. In the UK that figure was 0.9.
