i was out happily flying in a new area with some nice views, all went well and i killed off 2 and 1/4 batteries for some images, on my way back i drove past a lake and the sun was perfect and the reflection was pretty sick so i pulled over and launched from the side of the road and rose to 250ft as i went over some houses and powerlines etc, i happily took my images and killed off the rest of my battery, when bringing her home a man came across the road towards me and asked me what i was doing, i landed my bird in front of me and told him i was taking photos of the lake, he told me he could hear my bird fly over his chicken coop and he felt i was spying on him, he told me he had some one try to steal his dog and figured i was scoping out his property, i convinced him i was flying over to get pics of the lake and he finally left and i put my bird away, my question is there proper ettiqutete for flying over houses to get some where? i figured 250ft was plenty high enough to not be heard, i was in gps mode only not sport, was i in the wrong here?

Totally ridiculous brother know you didn’t break any laws sounds like he didn’t take his meds Some people just don’t have anything else to do but to try to ruin someone else’s fun keep on flying have a nice day

That is a unit of measurement I will most definitely add to the system I am developing. It's been a while since a unit of measure has been named after someone. Watts, farads, ohms, and Divebombers... Has a nice ring to it.

One of the reasons we fought in WW2 was so we didn't have to learn that metric crap. BTW, how come I can change my Mavic to fly in mph, know how high it is in feet, how fast it is going up or down in fps, yet it has to have a RTH height in meters?

There's no figuring out the logic of manufacturers. But RTH altitude in meters isn't that bad. A meter is 39 inches. For purposes of doing the math in my head, I just say it's "about a yard". If there are a lot of meters involved, I'll add roughly 10% at some point. It's close enough.... None of what I measure, including my carpentry, needs any sort of accuracy.

The OP complained that some ignoramus who knew nothing about drone law interfered with his flight. You are complaining about the exact opposite. You are complaining about a woman who knew too much. This is a tough crowd to please.

I guess I would use my usual trick when people tell me something is illegal. I'm also a photographer, and in that discipline, I've been approached several times and told what I was taking pictures of was illegal. It really depends upon how involved you want to get with the person claiming the illegality of what you're doing. I was accosted on a street in San Francisco a few years ago by a security guard who was telling me taking pictures of an interesting building was illegal (it was a bank). I asked him if he could cite the law, so I could look it up. He stammered a bit. Then I asked him where the signs were that indicated no photos were to be taken. He stammered more and started to talk loudly (a sure sign of defensiveness). I kept calm, and kept smiling. Finally he said, "We'll call the police if you keep taking pictures." I was in the mood for an argument, so I replied, "Yeah, that's a good idea. Let's get a cop here to explain to you that this is a public street in a tourist town, and that taking pictures are not only permitted, they're encouraged." He said, "I'm calling the police," and went inside the bank. I replied, "I'll wait." I took more pictures, and then walked down the street, looking for more shots. Never saw the police SWAT guys who the security guard obviously hoped would show up. It was a bit childish on my part, but dang, it was satisfying. But back to the thread. If you are told something is illegal by a private citizen, act a little confused and politely ask which law you're violating. It's more than likely the conversation will come to an end soon after that.

Feel free to provide the statute though (that shows it is just plain illegal--not something that shows you can't take photos in a courtroom ),

Surely he must have meant photographing inside a bank. I would think the "Aerial America" show on the Smithsonian Channel and the Google Earth people would be in a heap of trouble if he meant outside.

That being said I would think those two entities have covered all the legal aspects...as for the average drone flyer I really don't know, but it does make sense considering the times we live in

OK... a lot of assumptions were made here. Let me be clear. I was not on private property. I was not inside the bank. I was on a public sidewalk, actually across the street from the bank. And nowhere did I state I was "escorted off a property". It was the security guard who told me taking pictures of banks was illegal. He confronted me where I stood, across the street from the bank. I did not make any blanket assertions. I'm not sure where you read this, but it wasn't in my post. With respect, read the post again more carefully.
