Hello everyone. First time member here. I'm new to the drone hobby and am stoked to get some flight time in soon, weather cooperating. I went with the Mavic Mini for my 1st drone experience based on reviews, flight vids, etc. My brother-in-law already gave me my "call sign" - Big Mac.
Pretty accurate, I guess. My 1st name is Ron and as a kid was always called 'Ronald McDonald'. ?

Welcome to the forum Ron Boger . . . we are happy to have you. Please note we are experiencing a high volume of MM blow aways in high wind. Be careful, fly safe! We are looking forward to seeing your pictures and images.

Welcome to the forum. If your in the suburbs Northwest of NYC, I'll happily show you some places to safely enjoy your Mavic Mini (a great little drone that's a pleasure to travel with).

Again, welcome.

Thank you for the heads up. I read somewhere putting the drone in sport mode helps if winds pick up to get it back home as long as there is enough battery left. Have others done this?

Yes!! Drop your altitude as fast as you can (as low as you can safely) and throttle up. Sport mode will be your best bet. Remember wind speeds increase as you ascend . . .

Welcome from Chicago the Windy City.
Best advice especially with the Mini, is to check for wind. One time when I started flying, I wet my finger to test wind speed. And, almost lost my MP, now much smarter as to wind speeds.
Fly safe and have fun.
