Hi All,

Beginner with my new Mavic Pro, 3rd flight and notice something not quit right with the video.

Could someone please help me with what might be causing this issue on the video?

Only appeared when I do a 360 rotation. My flight altitude at the time was 119mtrs. Video on 4K/24fps.

Should I contact DJI or the seller?

Many thanks in advance

Hi Leonjiang,

I am also new & had video problems, got some good advice in the thread below.

It must just be me, Video argh.

That just looks like shadow from your props onto the camera.
Frame rate could accentuate that.
Does it do that all the way around with sun behind you ? Looks like it just comes as you turn to the sun.

Shooting into the sun or with sun on the camera you will possibly get some glare or shadow like that, you just have to edit that out, or not shoot that direction.

Middle of the day is terrible light for good footage, better in the golden or blue hours.

ND filters help footage, a lot.
I'd use an ND 32 middle of the day for video.

Welcome to the forum.
I hope you will find our site helpful and look forward to any input , photo's/video's you might post .
Don't be shy and ask anything if you can't find it by searching .

That's what's known as "prop shadows". It happens when the sun shines down through the top of the props. It's completely normal and is not a defect.

Here are some things you can do to prevent that from happening:

1) Fly when the sun is not high in the sky.
2) Fly in a different direction (if possible).
3) Attach a lens hood (like this one) to block sunlight.
4) Attach an ND filter (like one of these) to allow the shutter speed to be slowed down.

You are spot on, thanks @MAvic_South_Oz . only get it when shooting towards the sun.

Thanks @msinger, almost had a heart attach when I saw the footage. Learnt something new again.. :-)

Will get the lens hood, could you recommend a set of ND filters? I would probably shoot my video early in the morning or during the sunset time.

Thanks and thanks all

I’d recommend getting ND 4,8, 16, and 32. Often these can be had as a set. Then you’re covered as you learn how to use them with your desired. settings. I prefer PolarPro, and own nothing else for my 3 drones, but you can get them cheaper. Phantom Help has a good current list.

If the Mavic Pro, or Mavic Platinum Pro, I have these Leon . . . NiSi Filter kit for DJI Mavic Pro (6 Pack) - NiSi Filters Australia

A very good variety, suitable for right up to Aussie harsh beach / outback light / snow etc.
I bought from Melbourne store Michaels Camera, ordered online and picked up when in town when I dropped over there (from Adelaide).

I just checked, they still stock them . . . NiSi Filter Kit For DJI Mavic Pro (6 Pack)

Edit, it doesn't have an ND4, but the C-PL is about the same stops as the ND4, but usually I go with and ND8 right down to dusk (or very early morn), and up to ND64 for white beaches / outback light ect during middle of day.
I just use the NC UV for photos, and to protects the camera lens, as the ND are really just for video to slow shutter (if you aren't up on that, plenty of threads here on the forum).

@msinger has a list on his page (nisi aren't listed there), couldn't find it easily just now, but he should come by with a link for you.

Thanks @MAvic_South_Oz, will get a set of NDs as I will do more videos then photos. will head down to the beach this weekend.. cant wait.. :)

Hey no problems.
You can find a lot of filter brands online in various sets or singularly, some of the cheap ones are ok (I have a set of something my BIL gave me, and they seem fine), but the multi coated low reflection like NISI and other better ones have reduce glare a lot.

A few things to remember with them.
You can't fit them or remove them (change) unless the drone is off, and best to put the gimbal clamp on to help protect that while pushing the filter on.
I turn it upside down to change, holding the camera with right hand thumb and finger, left to fit filter.
When pushing on, they must go right down to the line, as it they aren't seated properly, the gimbal at start up might hit when calibrating, and / or you may get a gimbal overload error if not on right.

Try flying a video in auto mode, one run with no filter, then say an ND16, check the results, you should notice a good improvement with the filter.

Have fun, weekend is not far away now :)

Excellent tip as the gimbal looks really fragile. even when putting the clamp on i worry i might break it somehow. :-)

Brand-wise, any of the brands listed here would be a good buy. An ND 4/8/16 pack (like this Freewell 4-pack) would be perfect for shooting video during those times of day.
