Forum looks like it's full of pilots and not a lot of trolls, so I joined. I flew my Mavic Pro 2 for a few years, but recently got a Mavic 3 Pro and an Avata 2 is on the way. Photography is a big hobby for me, but Florida is a two dimensional state so it's a bit hard to get good vantage points. I'm basically using my drone as a 400 foot tall tripod. Hoping to do some nature photography near the Everglades (discretely in places where I'm only bothering mosquitos).

I got the Avata 2 as a ... casual, have fun flying, maybe indoor drone? I don't know. It's an experiment. Tried manual controls in a simulator--woof, that's challenging! Dang! LOL. I'll keep at it though.

Here is a shot I took of the Bay Bridge one morning in San Francisco with the M2 Pro.

Thanks for all the replies! 😄

@old man mavic Just curious, how do you like the Neo? I've been thinking about getting a "just messing around" drone that I could fly around the neighborhood or my house without risking a lot of money or making a big noise. Seems like the Neo could be really good for that. I DID order the Avata 2. The goggles haven't arrived yet, so I can't fly it. But hopefully soon. The controllers and goggles would also work with the Neo.

The Avata 2 is smaller than I expected from the photos I saw. The camera unit is smaller than my thumb. It's crazy that this little guy can fly 2.5 miles away and come back on a really small battery.

@LoudThunder We had lots of wind, but I didn't lose power this time. We had a couple tornadoes nearby. Yikes. Heart goes out to the people on the west coast of FL though. They got hammered twice in a matter of days, and I wouldn't wish that on anybody. Also, I'll check out the Member map.

I'm having tons of fun with my Mavic 3 Pro. I got some great shots of a lighthouse that's just down the street. This is a pano with the 70mm lens.

With all the hurricanes going through Florida I would think you'd have a lot of interesting "subjects" to video or photograph.

@RangerEd
Yes. If there was damage in my local area, I would definitely get footage of it, for the sake of documenting it if nothing else. Right now everybody is returning to the Tampa area and there are a lot of emergency and work crews, so I don't want to interfere with all that.

FYI, I have a bigger reply to the group, but it's waiting for the moderator.

Huh. My post disappeared altogether. Let me try again.

@old man mavic How do you like the Neo? I have been looking around for a more casual drone for just having fun. Something that I could fly around my neighborhood (or my house) without risking an expensive drone and making a lot of noise. That's one of the reasons I bought the Avata2. I figure it's something that I can fly indoors. I received the drone a couple days ago, but I'm still waiting for the goggles and the controller to show up. Maybe tomorrow. Things are a little delayed because of the massive storm that came through.

The Avata2 is smaller than I thought. The battery pack is pretty small (about an inch wide), and the camera/gimbal assembly is smaller than my thumb. I'm surprised such a little drone can fly 2.5 miles away and still have signal and enough juice in the battery to make it back! (Danny McGee did a range test on YouTube)

@LouderThunder
I took a look at the map. Thanks for the tip! I'll see if I can contact some of those folks.

I'm having fun with my Mavic 3 Pro. Here is a pano shot with the 70mm (equiv) lens.

@Erk1024 well this is in reply to your post #17 above
the Neo is really a niche product ,it can be flown many ways ,and is a lot of fun to use
it is not a replacement for its larger stable mates ,as a camera drone,or indeed as an FPV drone
and for those who focus on the camera quality ,as being the most important aspect of their drone ,then it will be a dissapointment
for me it gives me the opportunity to fly it in situations where ,because of its cost and, i might add ,its ability to survive ,the odd knock or two ,simply because of its design ,makes it easier to forgive its shortcomings ,

Makes sense. That's the message I was getting out of the reviews.
