iPad mini 4 sun shade

Do you have to use a mav mount in order to to use the PGY sunshade, my mini fits perfect without any mount, just wondering if

I don't have the PGY but the one I do have looks exactly like it. Fits my Ipad mini4 and go directly on the RC no mount needed

No you do not have to. It works either way with Ipad mini 4. Although slightly better with mount in that the rubber bands stay clear of the folding arms.
I saw the PGY here on the forum and knew it was exactly what I needed. Very happy with this product.
