Sorry, what is BVLOS? What do you mean about taking of before getting gos lock.Except you'd be flying BVLOS. And potentially taking off before getting GPS lock. Landing back on launch pad could also be tricky.

That's totally incorrect.But the signal from the drone in the direction of the controller will not change.
Actually only RC to AC signal loss will trigger RTH. It happened to me with my P3A that I lost video and telemetry, waited 4 minutes for it to return. Analyzed logs, the AC had been receiving the whole time and sat there for 4 minutes, waiting further instructions. It final did RTH on low battery.The drone needs a two way communication.
From the controller to the drone, to tell it what to do.
From the drone to the controller, to inform about his status, location, and so on.
If one of both fails the RTH becomes active.
With this antenna the signal from the controller will reach farther, may be.
But the signal from the drone in the direction of the controller will not change.
The strength and the reach from the drone is decisive for the communication.
