Just read this report in the Guardian... many people hate our drone

Yes, it seems like a kind of jealousy, doesn't it? The very ease of use of drones is somehow turned into a negative , which in fact it is a positive advantage.

One issue that has not been brought up much is drone videography is a way for mobility impaired people to enjoy and photograph the wilderness. It seems that they should have a right to do so, provided it does not unduly impact enjoyment by non droners.

Someday we will have drones that look to all the world like birds, quiet, soft and harmless. Perhaps they will perch on branches to do long time lapse photos. And someone will complain about that as well, haha.

The comments seem split 50/50
Annoying to see the usual accusations of wanting to take sneaky porno pictures and advice to shoot down or throw rocks, and more subtle attacks like pocket-sized jammers (so drone goes out of control and crashes into something?) .

Guardian being what it is they'd like new regs to ban from National Parks no doubt.

It's not a report, it's just someone's rather strong opinion and reading through the comments while there's a few negative comments, I'd say a much higher proportion don't agree with the author. It's not just drones that are subject to this response and it's so common it has its own name - NIMBY, Not In My BackYard. Some people are going to be unhappy with anything they disagree with even if there's not much logic to it or it's unreasonable and certainly come across it before as a photographer and cyclist.

I don't think it's worth wasting time on as there's on reasoning with that sort of person.

I suspect the journalist doesn't necessarily think that way but thought it a good time get copy by stoking up the drone hate again. In fact I suspect the entire 'incident' is fabricated from start to finish but the trick has worked as it's getting plenty of attention.

Every now and then the media get their teeth into what they think are popular hate subjects and if it's you on the receiving end the level of mis-information they are prepared to shove out is astounding.

You see it all the time against photographers, bikers, farmers etc.
Whenever a subject is in the news which you actually know something, about you soon realise what a crock of agenda ridden nonsense the public is being fed all the time

is the media just being used?
every news item iv seen includes links to other items of news re drones that are clearly aimed at the people that already hate them.
is this just to clear the sky for amazon drone deliveries ect that wont be flying to the same rules they are trying to impose on us?

Nothing so ominous or well-organized as an Amazon conspiracy. People are afraid of new things, and at the same time curious about them. News people, if they are going to stay in business, pander to this.

What gets me is how the majority of the people complaining are so self obsessed that they think we are filming them.

Get over yourselves! The reason why we're hovering is because we're waiting for you to get your butt ugly arse out of the frame!!

Despite been a mavic owner and i love flying, i can definitely see both sides to the argument. Ive been out having a surf enjoying some peace and tranquility, and then i hear this buzzing sound that gets louder and louder, but I feel the same way about jetskis sometimes. Both drone and ski are meant to be 30 m away from people in AUS. Sometimes i give the drone a wave:) sometimes the middle finger:D

And also a side thought about stock photography, which you always need release forms signed to sell if a person is recognisable from the image. Imagine if you were required to get release forms for every person inadvertently captured in a mavic video! We all should have some expectation of privacy maybe?

This reminds me of the gun debate. Some hate them and some don't. A few bad apples can spoil the bunch.

Yes, the entire world including professional Airline Transport Pilots and Commercial Pilots are in a coordinated conspiracy against drones for what reason? Jealousy?
How about that, given years of training and hundreds of thousands of dollars spent building flight time in a real aircraft, we may not like some unqualified yahoo risking our lives, the lives of our passengers and damage to million dollar aircraft because they think a $1,000 toy makes them an expert aviator.

Your response is irrelevant to my post which you quoted - which is about the UK newspapers and other media stoking up drone hate - if necessary with completely fabricated events such as climbing a mountain and being aghast because someone flew a drone for a few minutes nearby.

Don't take yourself quite so seriously. No one else here is.

You have a very valid point, but so do those level-headed drone pilots out there who also have rights to the skies. The world is NOT a one way road made just for you and your ilk. You and your colleagues need to face reality and accommodate the desires of others traveling this road with you.

Seems to me if everyone obeys the rules as already thought out and stated by the FAA, and you high-flying Sky Jockies stick with your 500 foot minimum non-landing flight height and we droneys stick to our 400 foot ceiling - which I would never violate- then we should all be able to coexist together and pose neither any harm or interference to one another.

Isn't that what America is supposed to really be all about? Inclusion of ALL people and malice toward none? That's what I learned as a boy, at least. I, for one, will accept nothing else from any man/woman alive not wearing a badge that I respect because he or she has earned it.
