So DJI has officially announced the Mavic 4 Pro announcement. From the announcement, they are really putting a lot behind the fact it will ‘spin your world’. Sure it is neat the camera and gimbal rotate a full 360 degrees, but how will people use that? I mean you can already do that effect in post edit. Really the only time this looks good is when flying FPV. Am I missing something unique about this?

Someone will get creative, I'm sure. I see a lot of 360 in the FPV world but it's more of a stunt than something cinematic but I'm sure the ordinary drone world will fine something new. I agree pretty much anything can be done in post but I understand a lot of drone pilots probably don't have time to find out how beautiful Davinci Resolve is and the wonders it can do for your video so "features" are being driven down to the drone. Hopefully the newly designed gimbal will make things smoother and will iron out some of the smaller issues we currently have on the 3-axis. I don't like the idea you can't yaw the gimbal while the drone continues to fly ahead, I miss that on the Mavic 2 where you could press and hold on the screen and move left/right. The entire drone rotating just looks weird.

Touch, hold & drag to yaw the gimbal is available on the Mavic 3 series.

Yeah but you'll have to crop out almost half of the picture. Not the case if the camera itself can turn.

Still will likely be a gimmick to add something "new" to the feature list, but people will use it anyway.

no way a gimmick for shot's like this, now I will not have to crop as much and will make for a larger print.

Yea....Your missing the original Mavic Pro Platinum.

I get the feeling that this is a variation of the trick first programmed into the Inspire 2: where the camera pan would get to a pre-defined point and the whole aircraft would spin on its axis to accommodate the continued pan. Impressive to watch, but nothing new.

Vertical shooting has been a feature on several models already, my guess is this would be something more.
Indeed. Both the Mini 4 Pro and Air 3S can shoot vertically, as can the older Mini 3 Pro, Mini 2, and even the original Mavic Pro.

I'm more curious about the native sensor resolution of the unrotated 3/4 sensor, which touts 100MB, likely calculated from quad-bayer use, while the native sensor size might only be 25MB, up from 20MB on the Mavic 3 series.

Full 360 panorama coverage without the zenith hole should finally be possible.
The touted gimbal specs of 90° up from horizontal should already offer that, without needing to spin the gimbal to shoot straight up. Even straight up shooting isn't necessary for covering the zenith hole, as long as there is sufficient overlap from almost straight up images around the zenith. Besides, it's usually just empty sky without any detail, or moving clouds that will create blur anyway during a stitch.

Vertical shooting was only available on the original Mavic and currently the Mini 4 Pro. Vertical shooting is SUPER important for those who post on Instagram and TikTok, and even Facebook. All of the video on those platforms is vertical. Having to crop vertical from a landscape shot is not good enough IMO. I sell hundreds of prints a year and having the extra resolution for vertical shots is HUGE for me. Could I have done vertical panos? Yes, but the stitching would cause problems in a lot of cases, especially if I was close to something causing distortion. With the 1x camera (especially with video) cropping vertical has been painful because you're cropping out like more that half of the FOV from a landscape shot. Being able to actually rotate the camera and maintain a wide shot gives you so much more freedom to work with.

The Air does not shoot true vertical (as in the gimbal rotating vertically). The Mini does. The problem with the Mini is that it only has that 1 wide camera. I LOVE having the telephoto cameras on the Mavic 3 Pro.

Yep the Air 3S crops into the picture and maximum resolution on this mode is 2.7k

The Mini 3 Pro also shoots vertical as in change of gimbal orientation
