if the high grass or deep snow and there is no way to run with your hands, then this is the way out

And the additional drag will make an already slower drone even more so. More downwind blow aways. A clean launchpad is another option.

I prefer hand launching and landing. Additional weight on the craft can only degrade performance.

The ground clearance on the Mini's gimbal worries me. This thread has got me thinking of trying to make 3D printed landing gear that would be very light -- little more than the bare minimum to handle a "normal" landing -- which would absorb some shock by breaking on a hard landing (but so what when spares cost pennies each).

A new flyer will not always have the luxury of a controlled landing. Leg extensions will bypass bloody fingers and grass blades wrapped around your propellers as you master skills. And although a car mat is a great launch pad, those smaller portable backseat mats can ba a challenge to hit for a newbie. These were my personal experiences anyway.
