There is a good youtube video from a guy in Hawaii. If I remember he got out about 4 miles and just made it back within yards where he started.

Yes it's quite nerve-wracking to watch. It was flat open land so no real risk it it did fall short coming home I suppose? It was in a 'transverse' auto-land but he was able to control direction.
