Microsoft is releasing a new Flight Sim this year which completely redefines the genre. It truly kicks butt in every way. It is community friendly, and features open architecture. Like their earlier versions, new aircraft can be added by hobbyists without tech training.

It comes stock with several GA and jet aircraft, but no drones (yet). If they were to add DJI drones and controllers to the new sim, they could tap into a huge new market they probably never considered.

Should we start an email campaign?

I like the ISS sim, similar to an ILS approach but quieter.
I often drop the camera to 90deg and fly the crosshairs down to a target.
Ha ha. ? It does remind me of an ILS, except there's no wind to fight, in the vacuum of space it's also harder to slow an airplane. I didn't read the directions and it took four attempts to figure out which control did what. My technique is give it a lot of forward thrust left stick to save time then zero out pitch roll and yaw, they won't change once they're zeroed, right stick. Then progressively decelerate at 20 meters distance, with left stick. They don't seem to care how much fuel you use. It might be fun to try pirouetting down the rail, who know what view you'd get. There doesn't seem to be any gravity pull from the mass of the ISS, I'll have to try a flyby, to notice any pull.

When you say "redefines the genre", what do you mean?

I'm an old simmer from way back. This new iteration is so much more realistic and sophisticated than previous versions. If you watch some of the "trailers" you'll probably agree.

Yes - the scenery is much improved. They seem to be marketing it more as a game than a flight simulator though, so it will be interesting to see whether it can compete with X-Plane as a real simulator.

Yes they are. MS is probably right in seeing gamers as a larger market than real-life pilots, but they want to appeal to both. I know a few private and commercial pilots, but I know a lot of gamers. Every one has at least one flight sim program. I'm hoping that MS will see droners as a market as well, though I doubt they will. A glance at sim fanboy sites (AVSIM, Simviation, etc.) shows no interest in drones within that community. I'll hope, anyway. That's why I mentioned an email campaign. Don't see any interest in that, either.

I'm Xplane all the way. Have to take a look but at this point I have a hard time believing it could match up. I don't care much about the scenery though ..I just use the panel view except for T/O and The landing phase.

The Earth‘s gravity bothered me until I turned it off.

DJI really should take a lesson, and update the super basic flight sim in the GO4 app. Learning in a sim is so far superior to risking a crash with an expensive piece of hardware.

This is just one of those hobbies where once we are hooked, the manufacturers get rich and we become poorer by the day.

I was lucky enough to be chosen as part of the early Beta on Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 - The mappings are absolutely breath taking, it streams in real map data from bing.

How are the aircraft aerodynamics and performance?

Fantastic for what they have so far, they just recently added two airliners, an Airbus and a 747 lol

Other than that, its been a bunch of turbo props and Cesnas - The flight models feel very nice, I'm waiting for them to get Track IR implemented so that I can enjoy it and feel a little bit more immersed to look at the surroundings.
