One scenario that could have caused this, as you were close to the surface & close up to them... either by mistake or they aimed to take your drone down.

That seems possible. A group of us were completely drenched while on a scenic boat on the Colorado River by a jokester on a jet ski. They are very maneuverable and can really send up a huge rooster tail along with that water steam.
