It definitely did not get hit by the wave. You can see it was above the wave and only got hit by the spray.

But you did not visually see the drone at the time, correct? So you could not say you definitive say that there were no waves anywhere around the drone based on your own view?

You could not see the drone. You say you were looking only at the controller screen with the camera pointed downward. It's impossible under those circumstances to visually tell whether the drone is descending or the wave is rising.

You may be right about the drone being hit only by spray and knocked down or shorted out. The end result is the same as being hit by the wave.

The log file shows no failure on the part of the drone. Operator error.

Many countries do but that's not very practical.

Can you explain your reasoning why VLOS is not practical? It seems with your outcome, flying 1100 yards in close proximity to a hazard was not very practical. If your mission was to film surfers why didn't you go to the beach?
