Mini 5 Pro is Broadcasting RID with ALL Batteries, Including the Mini 5 Pro Standard Battery

I can tell you now that DJI have altered the wording of the manual. I’m one of those sad muppets that downloads documents and reads them so I have a copy of the original manual. It states

The current version on the Internet omits the line about the Intelligent Flight Battery.

That RID feature seems to rely on an impossible manufacturing tolerance. Each drone would have to weigh EXACTLY the same out of the box!
I can now see how this problem was kinda "designed" into this drone. Best to just get rid of the feature..Seems like the cheapest thing to do.
They could of course recall every drone and re-furb and weigh each one, but that sounds like it would cost them a bunch of time and money.

Looks like DJI surreptitiously opted for option 1 of the two I spelled out.

"1. Update the User Manual to the current functionality, as redesigned, even if that is only limited to the U.S..."

Game over. Operating as intended. User Manual "fixed" with a deletion, and no accompanying explanation for the change.

Nevertheless, let's see what Nick has to say now!

They could just supply a NEW compliant standard battery that keeps the takeoff weight to 249g, just like they have done with the Mini 4 Pro, which does not broadcast RID, when flown with the Mini 4 Pro regular battery labeled 249g. I would happily pay for such a battery to get what I ordered.

Then, all they need to do is have the FW recognize that new 249g conforming total takeoff weight battery upon boot up, and bypass the check for RID, just like they currently already do with the Mini 4 Pro.

The version I’ve downloaded was saved 19th September 2025. I’ve had the online version for a while but it gets refreshed regularly. DJI obviously want to hide the date as the new document has the same V1.0 25.09 as the original.

Try, 13th October 2025. That is now the date on the English manual. Other languages have the original date of 17th September 2025

I wonder if my bringing this contradiction to their attention last Wednesday led to the change, because, as of last Thursday, Nick was claiming it should not be broadcasting, and yesterday Janie claimed it is working as designed, clearly unaware that the obvious contradiction in the User Manual ever existed.

Engineers must have changed the User Manual over the weekend!

Good news, is they are apparently paying attention to my telling them the Emperor was wearing no clothes, and quickly put his clothes back on! LOL!

O.K. WELL..What if lets say the new standard battery weighs 100 grams (just a number not real) and your mini 5 weighs 150 grams , your good....... BUT what about your neighbor whose mini 5 weighs 160 grams? If they cant build them all to weigh exactly the same they are "spinning their wheels"

The edit also introduced a new typo where they deleted the "f" in front of "flight" in the word pre-flight, so now it reads:

"The aircraft monitors the Remote ID system functionality from pre-light to shut down."

What the heck is "pre-light?" Before dawn? From dawn until dusk but not at night? I'm so confused! LOL!

I'll call them and ask them what "pre-light" the User Manual is referring to on Page 92!
They won't have any idea! LOL!

But to stop future such phone calls, they'll have to edit it again to fix it, and the posting date will have to change again!

Keeping DJI chasing their tails can be fun!

My 3 standard batteries run from 69.85 to 70.33g, the drone is 182.23g so they need to get the weight of batteries down (for me) to 67.77g, basically lose 2.5g.

Exactly. We could even do that ourselves by carefully removing a couple of plastic strips from the existing M5P batteries. It will provide some ventilation for heat dissipation. Point is, even if the weight is under 250g, DJI is unilaterally compelling it to broadcast RID, whether the FAA requires it or not, just like they did on the Mini 3 Pro, but not the Mini 4 Pro with its regular battery.

I'm thinking that the Europeans who have the 3% tolerance are going to be upset to find out their exempt C0 drones are also broadcasting RID, just as we should be, but our numbers of U.S. Mini 5 Pro users pales compared to theirs, given that DJI is selling it there, and not selling it here, and ours are all bootlegged units from somewhere else.

In the countries in the EU that mandate RID, aren't they also exempt from RID broadcasting, if takeoff weight is within 3%/7g of 250g?

Are theirs also broadcasting RID with the regular battery, as they cannot even buy the Plus battery?
 
They need more stringent quality control as far as factories go. If factory A sources their plastic from a whole different plastic supplier than Factory B then you gonna have to expect..a difference. Even tho it may be negligible in a small amount, when you cover a whole drone with it the difference is obvious ....and now much more obvious to mini 5 owners. I think this may be the time for DJI to re-think "wrapping" their drones in needless and heavy plastic!
 
New UK rules so probably not worth me bothering but getting A2 CofC qualification and getting both mini 4 and 5 pro C1 labelled.
UK0 drones with a camera and 100g or more need RID from 1 Jan 2028
UK1/C1 over 250g need RID from 1 Jan 2026

I think this may be the time for DJI to re-think "wrapping" their drones in needless and heavy plastic!
This whole variability thing is a smokescreen by DJI to try and have it both ways. They overloaded the Mini 5 Pro and it came up a few grams shy of being under 250g. Instead of retooling and solving the problem, they decided to let their marketing department spin it for them and sell it "as is" anyway, knowing that the EU has a 3% tolerance, and that they have decided not to sell it in the U.S. where there is no tolerance.

When they just got caught by me still claiming that the regular battery would not broadcast RID in the U.S., when it, in fact, does anyway, they changed the User Manual, after everyone already bought it with regular batteries, based solely upon the no RID broadcast in the User Manual!

There is no reason to buy the regular battery version if the drone is still going to broadcast RID, because it is still over 249g, and therefore requires pilot registration, and must broadcast RID!

Glad I got the Plus kit as I don't mind the RID and the registration; I value the increased flight time and I have a ton of Mini 3 Pro extended batteries too.

You have to remember who their target market is. People who just want to fly their drones and not worry them being exposed to the environment.

DJI could have brought the weight down for the Mini 5, it just wasn't enough of a concern for them to do so. That could be why RID is enabled for the smaller battery; they knew it would be over 250 g.

DJI says you cannot safely use Mini 3 Pro or Mini 4 Pro batteries in the Mini 5 Pro. Voltages are slightly different and even though it will launch, it will throw low power errors during flight that can lead to forced landings. Not good.
