Morocco, do NOT take your drone

Thanks so much for this post - it's exactly what I was searching for. There's some bad info out there Google-able, so I'm glad you told your story. I'm going to Morocco next month, and I just got my Mavic, so I sadly but definitely won't be taking it! Sorry for your loss. :(

Oh Man! That is a terrible loss!
It is shame that they did not offer some leniency as you were unaware and have some latitude that the could have been extended and allow you to cover postage to send the Mavic back to your home location.

So many people expect other countries of the world to be sensitive to human rights that we enjoy here in the US.
Reality check.
Appreciate the freedoms we have come to expect here in the US.
The rest of the world is not like us.

Hi !
Thanx for sharing that, but the problem is now when i'm reading it - is to late... today it happened the same shot to me as well... exactly the same... i arrived with the ferry from spain and they scaned our bags as well but nobody cared about that... i had a mavic and an another HdmI sony camcorder with (price 1300€ ) today when i left the country they didn't let me to take my drone with...i didnt know what to do... it was the "fly more " version with two extra batteries etc.... i didnt want to leave the drone there, asked them to pay any penalty to get it back - i think that would be a way, but there isn't any way. they are idiots !!!
The emotions are still playing in me , but i needed to leave the country. The main reason is the all country... The lucky lucky guys are selling fake and stolen smartphones on the street infront of the police , on the nect street another 1000 000 idiots are asking me if i need some good quality cox or hash or any another drogs... so i think this is the main problem in this country- the next is the dirty beaches - they should care about the ocean and the beaches.... i get sick from that ... sorry guys but norocco is a country , that i would not reccomend to you.

I think it's time to do something...
i want my drone back.. there should be a way... if not , I'm able to create a way...

Thanks for the insight. I will be transiting in Casablanca on my way through to Nouakchott at the end of the year. I need the drone in Mauritania, but absolutely no intention to film anything in Morocco from the drone. But that said, the drone will be in my carry-on bag, and I planned to spend the day wandering through Casablanca on a transit visa.

I would also prefer to transit in Casablanca than in Paris, which costs twice as much and is out of the way. I'm gonna risk it I think.

The police took my drone at the airport in Morocco, and i think it´s gone for ever...so i decided to do something crazy and something that no one else would believe that it´s gonna work.... i wrote a letter and made a video to the Moroccan King - Mohammed VI. and asked him to help me toget my drone ..

What if you offered to smash it into 1000 pieces. I wonder if you could have kept the pieces ?

Don´t risk it...they are idiots....they gonna take it even if you have it in your suitcase :(

I've been to Morocco a lot, the customs agents are just doing their job and following the law - and from what I've read if you declare it they will keep it for you and return it when you exit the country.

Another option I'm considering is booking the transit hotel in Casablanca, so I can leave the drone in the room before I clear immigration and just pick it up when I come back.

Yet another option is to get a connecting flight and just check the bag through to Mauritania.

The other option is to get written permission to bring the drone into the country for transit only. I intend to enquire about on Monday.

Don't take the drone to Morocco. They don't care if you have the permit. We had a film permit and separate drone permit from government. But still we had trouble. They ask lots of money as deposit. They make you hire a broker company from there. Our drone fell to the sea because of wind. We had to go to many police stations to get declaration for it.

Hi Guys.

I am currently sitting in the Marrakesh airport and my drone was also taken from me. I should have checked online first, but i have taken my drone all around the world and never had any problems. I was given a receipt and told I could get my drone back when I leave the country (fingers crossed). I still have everything else apart from the drone body. Maybe its different if you get it taken off you leaving the country rather than entering instead. Obviously, its not the end of the world as I should get it back. I'm just super annoyed I am not able to get some shot of this amazing country.

OP: I would speak to your travel insurance company and see if you can claim for it. Hope this does not put you off flying in the future.

I had my drone confiscated when I entered Morocco, but they gave me a receipt and said they would give it back when I left, which they did. When we went in storage to look for it, there was tons of over Mavics and Phantoms there. I had to pay 200 MAD (about $20) because it stayed there over 2 days. As was already said, don't bring your drone to Morocco if you can avoid it.

Hi Guys, I can confirm that they now give you a receipt and return the drone when you leave the country. You need to pay 200 MAD (about $20) for keeping it 10 days. They also escort you through security once they return it.

Hi. Tks for shared your experience. I’m going to Marroco this month, and I’m looking for experiences with drones over there. I’d like to take my drone with me, not for use in Marroco, but for use in other coutries that I’m visiting after Marroco. How can I declare my drone at the airport? Or can I make this process on line?

So what are you going to do? Take the drone and declare it? Or leave it at home?

I was thinking about concealing it inside a cuddly toy! I think i’ll leave it behind this time!
