Most of the time people simply ask and I'll give them all the info they want, show them my IG and explain why I'm flying in their neighborhood. To be fair it can be disconcerting to hear them buzzing around if you live there, so I just let them in on it all. But pin me in and confront, that's entirely different.

I think you handled that very well

Good response. Well handled.

I think you handled it well since it appears the outcome ended in a favorable result. But I would have done it differently since I don't care to trade my information for someone else's information; honestly they won't get mine. The fact that this person believes you need a special permit means whatever you present is likely not going to be acceptable.

However, if you block me in with your vehicle and you come up to my window in a long overcoat with your hands in your pockets and wearing a mask....I can't say exactly what I would do because it seems like it happened so fast to you but I'm glad you were able to record the interaction. People say this doesn't happen but relatively speaking, I think it's happens a whole lot more than it needs to.

Yeah it was a little freaky, for a minute there I thought I might be getting jacked. It's a good reminder to try to leave yourself an out if possible.

One of the reasons I opted for the RC2 was so I had my phone free to film in case i was in mid flight and had some aggressive random citizen confront me.

You handled it real well.

I have only been confronted once, and it was no problem. It is interesting to see how other situations have developed.
Thank you for sharing.

TheGroove, handled nicely…it is very hard to know sometimes just how bothered these “”Karens” are and what extremes they will go to make or break your day. The long coat, the mask, and hands in the pockets would have me concerned…911?…yes.

In the future, my only suggestion when entering your location to fly is…to drive in reverse, so the “Karens” think your leaving.

To pin someone in so he or she can't freely leave could probably be considered unlawful detainment or imprisonment.
If she hadn't moved on promptly, a call to the police would've been appropriate.

I actually had something similar happen this weekend, except it was one police officer in a solitary cruiser. He was pretty cool about everything. It turned out he was a first responder pilot for the town I was in and we talked about different drones for a bit. He then proceeded to call the other 2 officers on duty that were also licensed first responder pilots and made sure they brought thier service drones. We all ended up standing around in a circle like a bunch of bone heads, passing each other's Mavics around, and talking about apprehending peeps who think they keep getting located by super quiet helicopters.

It was a great time. Ha!
