Lots of talk around forums about "bad" Mavics.
I have a Phantom 4, Phantom 4 Professional + and my Mavic Pro arrived yesterday.
I had watched videos/tutorials and read the manual in advance.
While the batteries charged I went over the Mavic and controller carefully. As soon as 1 battery & the controller was charged, I reviewed and set the settings such as RTH etc.
No firmware update was required.
No problems when it flew.
I've had the same experience with my Phantoms.
I conclude that most of the problems (not all) are due to failure to preflight, failure to READ THE MANUAL and too eager to kick the tires and light the fires no matter what.
I am looking forward to taking my Mavic with me almost everywhere so I can take advantage of every appropriate photo opportunity that pops up.
I love my DJI products.
