While not exactly a drone purchase but it is a Japanese made product, out of curiosity I decided to check if there was any real price change on something I had bought in June of this year from Amazon Japan. In June i bought a saltwater Daiwa spinning reel, it is a made in Japan one of there better reels, so it is not inexpensive. I found that even with shipping I could buy it in Japan for $420, which was a lot less that here in the US. This was before 8/29/25 which means there was no tariff/duty on imports from everywhere except China for anything under $800.

Today I checked what it would cost me now after 8/29//25 since the exemption had been removed, if I bought the same reel today it would cost me $775 , that is a $355 increase because of import duty/tariffAmazon Japan screenshot 6:8:25.jpgAmazon Invoice 2025-06-08atM.pngAmazon Japan Screenshot 2025-09-01 .jpg

I'm a Shimano reel fan, but I think we all agree that we're now great again now that these import tariffs are here. (not)

One of my favorite drone product comes from Japan and the maker does a pretty good job of keeping their US customers informed:

The reality is none of us know how this is going to be going forward.
The entire tariff thing is a major disruption in shipping. It's not like someone can flip a switch and it will all be in place, or not.

I have an item supposed to come by October 10th. Don't know how they are handling their end but they said they pay import fees and have a high, long term, rating and have sold 62 of these in the last month.

So far there's no tracking since the order other than shipping label being created. It's been over a week.

just speculating but depending on how they are shipping this this so new they are probably still trying to figure this out. I think most of the time we will have to pay up front those import fees like the fishing reels added cost or like the other vendor posted. The biggest nightmare for both the vendor and shipper is having something show up in custom in the US and the final customer rejecting the shipment due to the tariff/tax cost.

FYI: eBay's Money Back Guarantee is completely VOID if you reject a shipment due to tariffs, no matter how "unexpectedly" large!

Sounds like tomorrow SCOTUS will get their first hearing on the validity of the tariffs.

It could go either way but ultimately I suspect the ruling would be along the lines of no one can overturn the President in this area except Congress so if Congress wants to do something about it, they are welcome to. That way there's no judgment on the whether it's legal and proper or not. SCOTUS has a way of refraining from absolutely ruling one way or another on not all but some high profile situations.

This is interesting to read:

Not really.
It's just as confusing as every other article about the tariffs.
From reading it over, can you figure out what tariffs currently apply on imported DJI drones?
I certainly can't!

I think part of the point and the foolishness of these tariffs is to confuse and hide the main real reason they were put in place. I think one can get an idea of what that drone tariff is supposed to be now from the charts. it depends on how it is shipped. The more confusing part is direct from China, looks to be 20% but I thought there used to be a base line 10% on China which would make it 30%, it is 15% from both Japan and South Korea, Canada looks like 35%, Mexico 25% and if the item is trans shipped as in DJI, in China ships, let's say through Canada or Japan or wherever there is a 40% additional tariff. But it looks like if the item is bought from a vendor that is on it's own the trans shipment penalty is more up to debate

Yeah that was my point; this is way more complex and confusing than anyone knows. It's literally a maze and if it changes constantly, no wonder it cannot be easily understood by the average consumer.

or vendor, or shipper, or customs, or countries, or any real reason other than to tax everyone without telling them that they are being taxed
