Hello from southeast Ohio. Thank you for letting me join your group. I’m not a drone pilot yet, but I would like to be if I can find a drone that works properly and I can afford it. I bought a Holy Stone HS720 and did all of the FAA stuff including the TRUST test. It turns out that this drone is so unreliable that I’m not even going to try to fly it, I’ll just hang it on a wall or trash it. I thought I would join this group and see if DJI has anything that works properly and might still be affordable. Thank you again for letting me in your group!

From CA to OH - Thanks for joining us @ MP!

Similar story here. Bought a Potensic drone to see if I would like flying, which I did. Upgraged to a Mini 2. As @Cooner stated, a big difference in performance, in video.

I would suggest looking a Mini 2, 3, 4. Usually the cost is a bit lower, but I would also suggest a Fly-more kit. It gives you more batteries, a charging hub and case to store it all in. In the long run it saves you $$ because it's bundled. Whatever you choose, it should bring you lots of enjoyment.

Welcome from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, USA. We have a Member's Map in the Upper Right of the Title Bar. Click on "Members" and then Click on "Member's Map…" Check it out and you might find some new flying friends.

Ad you probably know, MavicPilots is predominately a DJI Drone Site and if you scrool all the way to bottom of this web page, you will see the other Sister Web Sites that are associated with us, ion case you decide on a drone other than a DJI…

I fly the Mini 2 and I've had it for about 2-years and it still flies great. Many of the members have stories of their drones having flown hundreds, and even thousands of miles with issues. DJI drones generally cost more, but as you know that does not always mean you get a better product, but I think you will find that DJI is one of those products that will serve you well, and if there are any issues, DJI Support is quick to respond and helpful to the extreme… I know thee will always be some with horror stories, but I don't have any and if you search our database, I think you'll agree…

Any case, once again Welcome, and perhaps the advice below will make for a fun flying experience for you (when you get airborne…).

Since you live in Ohio, there are specific laws and rules for you to follow, please check the link below for all the Rules and Laws that are in effect in your neck of the woods and it also links you to some of the Best Places to Fly in your area… Also, if you travel on vacation, visit friends, and relatives in other parts of the country, check back here so you do not run afoul of the law.

in the mean time, while you decided on your next Drone, in case you decide to pull ot that HolyStone, here is some Good Old Fashion Advice…

You paid a lot of money for that Drone, put your phone number on it. If your drone gets lost or stuck in a tree and it finally comes down when you are not around, give the finders an opportunity to contact you so it can be returned.

Now, for the Fun Part, But do not let the excitement of the moment get the best of you. When you are going out to fly, do it slowly and deliberately. Get used to a set procedure and even practice it.

There are so many things I could write but these are the highlights that I feel need mentioning.

Plug in your phone/tablet into your controller; turn on the Controller and DJI Fly App (if it does not start on its own…). On the Drone, open the front legs, then open the back legs, then remove the Gimbal Cover.

The Gimbal is the most delicate item on the Drone and banging or bumping can damage it. I also fastened a short "Remove Before Flight" ribbon to the cover so it's more noticeable and I do not forget to remove it…

Turn on the drone and watch it come to "life." Watching the Gimbal go through its self-check is almost like watching a puppy or kitten opening its eyes for the first time…

Place the drone down (preferably on a Landing Pad) while it finishes its self-test (collecting satellites, etc…).

Check your battery status (Phone, Drone, and Controller), check the Signal Strength, by now the Controller should have reported it updated the Home Point.

Lift off, 6- feet (2-meters) or so, hover a bit, check the controls (move the drone a bit forward, back, left, right, yaw left and right). By now, your Controller will probably report again, Home point Updated.

If you go out in a rush and race thru your start up and take off before the drone has finished it prep, it may update its Home Point over that pond or that old tree you are flying over and in your excitement, you'll fly the drone long past it Low Battery point and when it engages Return to Home and lands in the pond or in a tree; it will be all on you…

Now go have fun, learn to fly the drone by sight before you try to fly it out a distance depending on the video feed, FPV.

I would also advise you to use YouTube and watch a lot of the Videos on flying and setting up the Drone. When it is too dark, too cold, or too wet, you can "fly it vicariously" through YouTube. Also watch some of the Blooper Drone Videos and learn how not to fly your "New Baby."

Fly On and Fly Safe…

Welcome from Vero Beach, Florida. DJI has an excellent line of drones. All of them are good and it just depends on your budget and how you intend on using it.

There is a classified forum here that you might watch. Check threads that discuss the idea of Binding the drone to the controller. If you buy a used drone that is bound to the controller under another person's account (if they have not wiped it out) you will run into trouble down the road. It's important the seller remove their account from the drone. You're welcome...it was a close call but you squeaked in :). North Pole, Alaska here.

Thanks, I had already discovered the problem of bound drones. I will be buying from dji directly, probably.👍
