Hey folks - regular poster here but Mr. Maviac, a long time Mavic Air guy, just made hisself (sic) a Mavic 2 Pro owner (the accountant said I needed some year-end expenses). Anything a brand new M2P guy needs to know? I got the fly more package and will get it insured.

For the basics, not too much different than Air. Just download the latest manual from DJI and read through it. Also go over the firmware release notes for updates not in the manual.

update to the latest firmware to get 2km more range. consider changing the tripod mode to atti mode which is useful for measuring wind speed and direction.

I recommend getting care refresh and state farm type insurance or theft and loss

interesting, how do you change it from tripod mode to atti mode ?

I had a MA2 prior to M2P and use them both all the time.
I found the M2P slightly more drift-prone in the beginning but I find it becoming more accurate as time goes by (hundreds of flights), now about the same accuracy as my MA2. What a great little aircraft.

I debated going with the MA2 and then getting a Mavic Pro 3 down the road. Then a friend who has not had a ton of material success in life but is the most optimistic person I know called me as I was walking into the store, and was like “bro, you only live once!”

So, M2P it is.

Thanks everybody! Am definitely reading the manual (as tempting as it is to just start flying) and will either do DJI care or get insurance (2 years/100 hours with the Air I never needed it but it definitely made me feel more comfortable, and for $200 or so total was worth it).

I’m REALLY looking forward to the better range.

Thanks everybody. Only flown once (been tied up with year-end work) but it was super windy so I only got about 6 minutes in before deciding it wasn’t a great day to fly and bringing her home. I spent yesterday putting on stickers (reg #, contact info, battery numbers (I number my batteries and also label them with the last 3 digits of the serial # for easy tracking in AirData)). My impressions are: this seems like a much more ”serious” machine. If that’s the right word. The controller seems to be built better (metal dials rather than plastic on theAir) and the AC itself seems to be higher quality. Very heavy, but very solid. Looking to add some Master Airscrew blades soon.

But the DJI carrying case is not great. The Air’s was much better. And DJI showed I registered hours before I did, which is causing issues with getting DJI care. I’ll do the video thing to get it (guess what? DJI admitted it was an error on their end but still won’t fix it) but I already have it insured.
