A friend expressed interest in getting a drone. Mini 3...Neo...Flip type budget. Wants a RC screen controller. Nothing at DJI...nothing at BH...or Adorama... There is a model here or there...but at this point there is -almost- nothing. I knew the Mav 4 was impossible to get (almost) but I had no idea that was true for almost the entire line if DJI drones.

Exactly why I bought the Avata 2 and the NEO ahead of time before I really needed them. Saw them on sale at a good discount so I bought them but still haven't activated. I thought there would come a day when DJI drones were scarce in America and existing supplies would be difficult to replace. I bought the Mini 4 Pro and kept if for year only to find an opportunity to give it away (to my brother) but as mentioned, if I were to decide to do that today....probably would be out of luck.

Not sure why anyone feels the Mini 5 Pro or the Mini 5 Max will show up in America. If that model launches sans America, it will be a wake up call. There's no way for Adorama to do all the heavy lifting.

Not saying I knew this exactly was coming, but I knew something bad was coming. Anytime the government is involved, bad things happen and it's unpredictable.

As long as adorama does some light lifting for those in the know, I'm happy! LOL!

Makes you wonder if DJI is pulling out of the U.S market until the political policy smoke clears.

Anyone want the drones in my fleet? I’ll only charge three times what I paid for them…lol. <jk>

I started a thread in this forum a couple of days ago about my perception that used DJI drones of Mavic 2 Pro vintage and newer are gradually appreciating in price on eBay, and are certainly not depreciating as they generally did over the past few years before the current climate of political uncertainty ensued.

I anticipate that there will be a spate of panic buying of DJI drones of all ages, if a thigs escalate to the point where ALL imports from China are slapped with crippling import duties, or if DJI drones are even banned outright due to security concerns. I am toying with the idea of buying four or more Mavic 1 Pros to hoard while they can still be found priced at a piddling $250 for the drone alone, simply because I would get a warm fuzzy feeling from doing so haha.

Just wanted to follow up here on my replacement Mavic 4 Pro drone shipment out of Canada, it appears that it has been seized by customs and will not be released at all. The only question now is how I deal with being out both the drone and the money, it was shipped by DJI so I'm hoping they'll come through for me.

Just want everyone here to be aware of the risks. Here's a quick YT I put together outlining the case.

Grandpa advised that I steer clear of religion and politics as discussion topics to preserve my natural dentition, so I'm choosing my words with extreme care here, BUT, the prevailing winds are blowing in the direction of a growing vendetta against DJI that could lead to an outright blanket ban on all its products in the USA.

TheGroove, sir, I'd be livid in your shoes over the loss, at least for now, of both the $4K you shelled out for a new M4P, AND of the drone that is now mired in a labyrinth of red tape on arrival at the customs shed. I've got no helpful advice to offer, but, on behalf of other drone pilots who might have been contemplating a workaround solution that would place this new DJI flagship in their hands, I thank you for this cautionary tale that is both timely and ominous in its long-term implications.

The handwriting is on the wall. Maybe the Americans cannot read the Chinese characters but the picture is starting to become clear. You have to ask yourself, what does a monumental shift in policy and practice resulting in thousands of new drones starting to flow back into the system, resuppying channels and restocking inventory and lots of new models showing up in America look like? Hard to imagine at the point. In one or two more months, Best Buy and other retailers are going to be set for the rest of the year to prepare for BF and the holiday season and from what it looks like, DJI is not going to make the cut. This is the very definition of bleak. You can blame your government.

I was curious about the stock for the Osmo Pocket 3 which had been raised for the higher Chinese tariffs however I noticed it's also out of stock and still at the higher $799 price.

Are any other similar Chinese products like cameras out of stock as well?

Ugh! What a nightmare. I'm sorry these two unfortunate incidents happened to you, but I (and the community) appreciate you sharing your harrowing story. What I find disturbing is the lack of explanation from CBP. If it were a tariff issue, you think you'd have been presented a bill and problem solved (albeit at a steep penalty). Makes me wonder if the reason for your "detained" drone is all the political bruhaha over DJI, but there have been no definitive rulings or EOs as yet, so what the heck! We live in a very uncertain – and dare I say, totalitarian – time. All the congressional sowing of fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) is wreaking havoc among the lawful and respectful drone community. Please keep us posted via this forum. Best of luck!

WOW so sorry this has happened to you. Hope it eventually get it worked out.

If the government confiscates your property without paying just compensation, that's a taking in violation of your Fifth Amendment rights, more specifically, a physical taking. I suppose an exception would be if your property is considered contraband -- an illicit or illegal product or substance of some kind. It sure isn't in the realm of eminent domain, where a government entity condemns, seizes, and pays for private property to satisfy a supposedly greater good. Has legislation been passed and signed which declares that DJI products are illicit or illegal, or is this just executive fiat run amok -- another nefarious executive order? There's a lot of that going around these days, like, for example, pulling people off the streets and incarcerating or deporting them without the benefit of due process -- also a violation of constitutional rights. If you can't get satisfaction from your elected representatives, file a tort claim against the government seeking compensation for your loss.

Most people won't bother. We don't know the reason behind this and nobody wants to be picked up in a courtroom by federal agents just before you opening statements being accused of helping the Chinese fund an illegal operation against their minorities in a remote region. Nobody wants to be placed on a list fighting against the government's confiscation efforts on behalf of DJI. It's going to take years to get your drone back or get paid back so it's not even worth it especially when you can barely get an [expensive] lawyer to help you in federal court. The drone was likely taken under asset forfeiture because of whatever they believe might be true and they don't need to prove it and this has been sanctioned by SCOTUS. And here we are.....

It is not certain that a resolution of this matter could take years. There could be a mass return-to-sender order that would enable DJI to refund those who never got their drone in weeks or months, rather than years
