So I was watching a PowerBang gaming video on YouTube and a mid video add came up. It was extreamly anti-drone and uses footage from youtubers.

It appears to be a for dedrone.com, while they say in the comments of this video that they respect enthusiast operators. This video is still extremely negative. I down voted it my-self.

Yeah that sucks.
Drones also do loads of very good work in the community, and that has barely been touched on as yet !!

Very negative for sure and it would be good to dig into this dedrone.com (that name itself very controversial), who is behind it and why, what’s their aim, etc.

You down voted it then came and posted it here.......??

According to the forum statistics on the right, we have over 82,750 members. That's a LOT of downvotes if they all get to clickin'! :D

Also, a lot of "anti-drone" tech is either highly impractical, outright snakeoil, or even illegal unless you have a specific waiver from the local government regulator in the case of some of the RF jamming products being peddled. A referral to the authorities is probably a better step than a downvote if you suspect the latter might apply.

Consistent with all else Amazon does - kill and/or cripple the competition and then emerge with essentially the same product and capitalize the market.

Edit:

I am not as internet savvy as others that have posted clarifications but that does not essentially change my original thought. Amazon does seem to have a rather predatory business model.

Except this seems to be someone just using Amazon to register their domain (and they're also host it on the public part of EC2). That doesn't necessarily mean that the ultimate owner isn't Amazon, but in this case, and based on their website, it seems to be a fairly recent VC-backed startup offering anti-drone tech to law enforcement, governments, and so on. e.g. the kind of stuff Gatwick will be in the market for.

Wow, it does say the registrar is amazon.com, but it’s a trojan horse!

Registrar URL: Amazon Route 53 - Amazon Web Services

No, that's right. You can register a domain through Amazon, which is what DeDrone appear to have done, just as you can register a domain through countless other registrars e.g. Google for their newly opened ".dev" domain. The Registrar (e.g. the entity who administers the DNS/WHOIS for the domain) != Registrant (the e.g. entity who actually owns the domain and the content of servers, etc. on it).

It seems extremely unlikely that Amazon is behind the actual site as NetDep seemed to be implying, just responsible for creating the domain in the .com root DNS and hosting it.

Although highly dramatised, everything in the video is true and factual, not something that can be said of most of the content of this forum.

Did not know that, thanks for the correction.
