I put the date in because this is a tax thing. I have been planning to get the Mavic 3 when/if it ever gets announced, but I am a small business owner and the work I do, I can write off a new drone. So, should I go buy an M2P? I’m very happy with my old Air 1 (2 years old today!) but I’d love a better camera. So, to the subject, any reason why not, if money isn’t an issue (money is certainly an issue, but I’m weighing tax issues).

Just be sure you really need it and can afford it.
No sense spending $2000 on something not needed or can't afford just to get back something like $600. If you go into debt for it, the net cost is even worse.

I don't know that anyone can decide for you, but I certainly understand GAS. If I were in that position, assuming you're a professional photographer, possibly a corporation, what I would do is buy the Mavic 1 personally from your corp, then sell it, buy the new drone and write it off (in no particular order). You could certainly buy a refurbished M2, pro or zoom at a big discount and that will lessen the blow. I would recommend refurbs, especially for a couple of reasons: 1) You save money up front. 2) From an authorized DJI dealer you won't know the difference between refurb and new. (I went this route and couldn't be happier). 3) The refurb is "pre-depreciated", so when you sell it down the road with the M3's come out you're that far ahead as you'll still be registered as the "original owner". You may even elect to keep it when the M3's come out as DJI will have to go a long way to top the M2's, but they never fail to surprise. 4) By the time the M3's come out they may already have the drone ID thing built in where you can't turn it off and you may want to stick with the M2 until it dies.

The MP3 has been ‘coming’ for 18 months, but still isn’t here. If it does come it won’t be until spring. So, if you can go until April/May before getting a new drone - then wait. If not, get the MP2.

If you can afford the net money spent (price-tax break+ROI) buy it, if you can’t, don’t.

Hmm. I had the same question last spring. Mavic 2 pro or Air 2? I decided to save a thousand and get the newer technology. Been pleased with my decision.

I bought a M2P last December, I've been very happy with it.

You may want to know that the 4K video of M2P in FOV mode is actually 2.7K resolution inflated to 4K format. That's plain cheating IMO :

The camera is good for still photos though

I found my M2P on Facebook Marketplace for $700 deals like this only last about a hour so you have to constantly be watching. This is the best drone I have ever flown after owning P4,MP,and MA and many others. It's a good feeling to be able to enjoy your hobby without any worries, I recommend Mavic 2 Pro to anyone.

Agreed. I have had no issues with my M2P and the camera is fantastic

I had a MP and then a MPP and then 6 months ago I bought a M2P with the Smart Controller and have never looked back.
I have way more confidence with the occusync2 and the Hasselblad camera is head and shoulders better. I used to hate flying in sunlight with the glare off my tiny little iPhone screen - the Smart Controller is a joy to use.
Upgrading to a M2P is more than just an incremental improvement. I say if you can afford it - buy it cause you’re going to love it.
