DJI is expert at figuring out margins, profits and sales projections. As a fictional hypothetical scenario, if the margin on a M2 is $1000 and they sell 3000 units not only do they make the same gross profit on a M3 if they sell only 1500 units with a $2000 margin. Selling fewer units with the increased gross margin reduced material, labor and shipping costs as well.

One notable thing with a Mavic 3 is that they are using the same controller that they use with the mini 2 , air2 , and air2s. In many respects that’s a downgrade is it lacks the LCD display and many more function buttons that are omitted on the newer model controller. Perhaps the thinking is the push people into the expensive smart controller? I much prefer the controller on the Mavic 2 rather than the one that came with my mini2.

Obviously the manufacturing cost with the dual camera and potentially the on board memory chip racist of the cost of manufacture. Additionally I am sure they are acutely aware of the massive increase in shipping costs to put their products on a boat. I am told container costs can be as much as 10 times what they were a year ago. I would think that’s a Mavic 3 would be projected by them to be a massive upgrade over the Mavic 2. And perhaps it is.
