An app that me, and probably many of you were using for a long time - UAV Forecast, today updated and stopped showing local weather info unless you upgrade to a subscription. The developer slowly pushed his way to this, removing features from the free version for quite some time now, but today he just killed it!

I am already developing an alternative, which will be free to use :)

Where do you plan on getting free worldwide data from?

It will be ad-supported.
I will probably end up using OpenWeather or WeatherKit

And are you just trying to create another weather app (lots of them exist today)? Or are you attempting to reproduce the additional things that UAV Forecast offers (like satellite count, KPI, wind at elevation, etc.)?

I have not seen any change in the last few months.....it changed from free to subscription quite a while ago now....but it is not much..I opted for the 24 hour forecast for $6.99 a year....you can get the 7 day plan for 25.99 annually or the 15 day plan for 49.99 a year

I was only able to get the paid version on ios, not my android phone. Says incorrect PayPal password, same one worked on ios. Forget credit card, they ask for a password there too. New UAV Forecast is broken. It recently reversed wind direction 180* on my free app, had to change wind settings (From now To) fixed it. Big difference East & West

Ola, hay aquí en España, una nueva aplicación realizada por Rafa Ocon, os dejo enlace
Buenas, conozco esta app, pero no tiene funcionalidad de UAV Forecast.
Para ver spots de vuelo yo uso DJI Findspot.

Good luck with your project! If it's successful, it's going to get expensive pretty quickly as high quality weather data, Apple dev subscription, your time, etc. are not free. I suspect that's what the maker of UAV Forecast eventually figured out.

I already have Apple Developer for my other projects. The API costs can be expensive, but I think I'll implement "paste your own API key" thing that some open source apps have.

I had no idea this happened. I also have no idea how many times I opened the app to get a quick glance at the Kp and "Good to Fly" status in full sun in the field most times. The whole time I was referencing a "Preview" screen with false data!!!??? I'm glad I didn't have any mishaps. F them. The only reason I caught it was checking today's Kp as my Ham radio resources are showing a major solar storm. I just wanted to see if the data between the two was close. Uninstalled as soon as I realized. I have enough paid subs for crying out loud.

KP doesn't affect that much, really. You're not going to have a mishap unless GPS signal is very much blocked, which is unlikely with so many satellites in the sky.

Many people like to monitor the Kp index when flying drones, but it's important to note that it doesn't significantly impact drone performance. While it might be interesting to track, there's no practical reason to rely on it for your flights.

I have an Apple Watch Series 6 and was playing with the weather app and discovered that is have good wind information by the hour. I am not sure I need other apps now.
