So... on vacation and taking some video on the creek at our cabin. I have had nothing but trouble with my Galaxy GS9+ crashing during flights...
Secrets to Flying When Phone Disconnects
so I brought an old iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7 to fly with. All my flights with the iPhone were perfect, when I tried my Galaxy S7, not so much. Using my droid phone, I was repositioning for another run up the creek, then it went into RTH for some reason and it started to climb like a homesick angel. Thankfully obstacle avoidance stopped it when it reached the bottom of the canopy. I was in tripod mode, LOS was set to hover because of the dense foliage above, however the RTH altitude was set to 90m (I assumed that if LOS was set to hover it would stay put). I was unable to regain control until I unplugged the phone from the RC and manually flew it back to a safe landing.
I forgot to pack the micro USB cable that came with the RC and I was using a spare I had with me that was plugged into the bottom port of the RC. As I am writing this, the GS7 is plugged into my laptop with the same cable and if I brush against the cable it disconnects and reconnects to the PC, so at this point I blame the cable. But I am still trying to figure out why the attached phone has so much control over the RC. Why, when there is a phone malfunction does my M2P freak out... and is that what triggered the RTH???
Given the area I am flying on the creek with all the trees and dense foliage setting a proper RTH location is pretty much impossible. Obstacle avoidance on the M2P is awesome by the way... just trying to figure out what settings I may be missing in case of LOS, and why I am having phone problems with my droids.
I uploaded the log files to the various viewers but I cant see anything that explains it. Maybe someone can help with figuring this out...
Log file is attached and here is the video... at about the 2:00 minute mark it stops recording, goes to RTH, and recording starts again.
Thanks!
Ed
