What are these lines in my video?

I think these might be shadows of the propellers on the camera? They went away when I changed direction away from the sun.

Do we need some kind of lens hood for the camera?

Yes, you are correct, that is prop shadow. I believe it is caused by the shutter speed being set too high. You shouldn’t need a lens hood but you might want to pick up some ND filters for when flying in sunny conditions. They will cause less light to be allowed through the lens, forcing the camera to a slow shutter speed which should elimanate the prop shadows.

Indeed, prop shadow captured and frozen in each frame, because of too high shutter speed. Lens hood helps somewhat. Better is to use ND filters to get the shutter speed at max 2x the chosen frame rate. This will blur the shadows (and other things making for a smooth cinematic video) so you don't see them.

Just wanted to let people know that I got the Polar Pro Cinema ND filters and they did indeed fix the shadow strobe lines in my videos.
