I'm truly puzzled. The RC-N2 already does O4, and based on leaks it looks like the upcoming Air 3S will be bundled with the RC2 or the N3. Well, if the RC2 is supported and can do the job, why not the N2?

I'm not aware of any serious hardware defect in the N2 that would lead to a new design. Anyone have some inside info on why we're getting a new controller with the Neo and Air 3?

One reason I can think of would be to enable use of the MC3 without goggles... Sine the system design changed with the MC3 – it now connects to the goggles 3, and all communication with the aircraft is through the Goggles; the MC1/2 connect directly to the drone – supporting VLOS flight with the MC3 would require a new RC for the MC to connect through.

That said, I really doubt that's the reason, nor that MC3 control will be supported without the goggles.

I think its a cheaper version,
Essentially the same as rc-n2 but with cheaper components and thus lower price fitting the neo.

On the other hand the leaks indicate that air 3S will also come with this rc-n3. But even if so dji will make more money by using cheaper components (with same functionality)

Pretty sure they will find a way to tell consumers that its better and not compatible with rc-n2 drones even without reason.

I was about to post a similar question today however I'm glad you did. I'm thinking the leak might be of a cheaper 'fly more' bundle which will stay competitively priced with the original Air 3. Then we'll still have the premium bundle that includes the screen controller. DJI stopped app support for my phone over a year ago, so if that N2 design is the only option we're getting I'm cooked.

Yeah, I'm thinking reduced manufacturing cost is probably what's afoot here, now that you and @djiuser12345 mention it, given the pricing on the Neo FMC.

Maybe less battery capacity. Four 18650s instead of six, or maybe eight. Just speculating.

Sure be nice if they'd support the N2 on the Neo for those of us that have them already.

from what it says on the DJI NEO Support site at the following link the N2 can be used with the Neo as well as the N3 and the RC 2
DJI Neo Support Site Control Devices

*********************************************************************************************************************
DJI Neo can be used with the following control devices:
1. Remote Controller: DJI Neo can be used with DJI RC-N3, DJI RC-N2, and DJI RC 2 with O4 video transmission technology.

2. Motion Controller: DJI Neo can be used with DJI RC Motion 3 and DJI Goggles 3 with O4 video transmission technology.

💡[Tips] When using DJI Neo with DJI RC Motion 3 or DJI FPV Remote Controller 3, DJI Goggles 3 is required.

3. FPV Remote Controller: DJI Neo can be used with DJI FPV Remote Controller 3 and DJI Goggles 3 with O4 video transmission technology.

DJI Neo can also be controlled as follows:
When DJI Neo is used without a control device, the vision positioning system ensures the usage of intelligent features.
DJI Neo can connect to the DJI Fly app on the smartphone via Wi-Fi to enable Mobile App Control.

I got the N3 just to so the NEO could its own controller.
