So this happened yesterday...
Showing it off to my in-laws, it got squirrely around a tree; i lost my sense of remote direction when correcting, tree wins.

It still flies fine.

I was testing it in my garage later that night, and crashed into a column. Now I have some nice scuff marks from its way down:

You can also see how the right forward arm is not closing all the way.
After the second crash, it still flew fine, but now i get a long delay and black screen when taking pictures. They seem to be stored fine, and videos work as normal... i'm not sure what could be physically wrong to cause what seems like a software issue like this.

I'm going on a trip to Europe in a few weeks, and I don't want to wait for the DJI Refresh cycle, so I'll just let it ride for now. If it ends up going down, i've got it double insured anyway.

Any thoughts?

Buy a new one before your big trip and send that one in for repair :)

Sounds like to me, that in both cases, you were not in full GPS mode? Especially maybe the garage? Then that may mean you were in ATTI mode, which is a bit harder to fly. Like flying a ball bearing on a pc. of glass. You have to be aware and careful.

I would suggest that you get more flight time under your belt before you start flying around places where there are people (and the things that people like to viist). Get yourself a little Hubsan drone, non gps, that way you can practice your atti flying skills while sitting on the couch (or in the garage), and not risk your Mavic...

Thanks for the feedback. I've been flying it for a few months and I'm comfortable enough taking it around. I think the key take-away from today is to get better at hitting the Pause button when things start to get risky. Take a moment to collect my directional sense, and get out of the situation safely.

True, inside the garage I don't get GPS signal, and it goes into Atti. In this case I was playing with the Activetrack, and it got away from me.

I actually have a little hubsan X4 that i got prior to the MP, and it's what made me even consider getting a "real" one like the MP. It's fun to fly around but really frustrating to keep in control; it gives me a real appreciation of just how incredible the stabilization and guidance of the DJI line is. I've actually been meaning to get it out of the closet again - flying the MP and knowing how the controls actually work I think will make flying the Hubsan a bit easier.

Oh yes, absolutely. If you can keep a "non-gps" enabled "toy/practice" drone in one place, hover, and do some "nose following" figure 8's with it (both right, and left), then you are ready for when you (and you will) lose gps, you will be able to keep it in control, and return to you.

I really think that that is why some folks "lose" their AC reeeeal quick, they have almost zero experience with a drone, any drone, and when they spool up the Mavic, and they have an issue,
well, no good can come of that.

The little "toy" Hubsan/Proto X type toy drones are perfect for entering into this hobby. 'Sides, crashing these is easier/cheaper......

I started with a Hubsan X4 as well!!
