3rd party chargers causing battery swelling?

Was reading up about keeping batteries running longer. Came across this vid and it covers a lot of the points mentioned here.

Since the info is from DJI it makes sense that it would suggest staying away from a non DJI charger

Will give all this a shot. I'm not very sure how long it'll take me to get a charger that can do 50% charges automatically. But if there are tips that I can do with the stock charger please let me know.

Not particularly cheap, but this charges 4 IFB's simultaneously to 100% and also has the 60% 'storage charge' option. (Amazon listing for reference only). Been using this type for the last five years, so tried & tested

I have a Hanatora charger for my Mavic 2 batteries. it has discharge and storage function. It works perfect, and in periods where I do not fly (like the long dark winter here north of North Pole), I use it to keep the batteries fit. Every 2-3 months I charge them fully, then discharge them to around 10%, then charge them up to 60% for further storage.

Seems like a lot of what is needed to maintain DJI battries does not come as part of the kit. Do I just manually keep an eye on each battery and get it to 60%? Similarly the only way I can do a discharge cycle is by attaching the USB connector and using the battery to charge a phone or powerbank.

Also I see from this that there are decently good 3rd party chargers.

You can If you don't want to get a charger that does it for you. Two solid lights and the third blinking is around what you want to keep them at in that case But its a real pain that way. A Hanatora charger with storage option is the best way to go. The guy in the Video saying don't use them is just spouting DJI propaganda lol and these chargers have never harmed a DJI Battery. his other advise is spot on tho.
I Charge my phone or other stuff with my Battery if I don't use it. They don't make a Battery dis-charger for these batteries ...not that I have seen.

If I am not planning on flying for an extended period of time and all my air 3s batteries are at full charge, is there a way to dischage them to say 40-60 percent? I know "go fly" but wondering if there is another way.

The flymore combo has a small connector where you can connect the battery and use it to charge USB devices. Use that to charge a phone/powerbank to drain the drone battery

During a week it will anyhow discharge itself to 60% if not used.

Pardon me if I am redundant, I didn't read all of the post but I had the same issue with my 2S. AND IT WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE CHARGER. Although I wouldn't use an aftermarket charger.
My swelling problem was caused by storing the batteries with a full charge
Many devices recommend storing with a full charge but not these intelligent batteries.
Follow the DJI recommendations and store them at about 1/3 charge, check them every couple of weeks if not flying.
Never let them go "Dead" because it would be hard, not impossible, to bring them back to life.
On the positive side, I purchased reconditioned Batteries on E-Bay with a two year guarantee, from an authorized DJI reseller about two years ago, at less than 1/2 regular price.............still going strong.

Just received this from DJI

DJI Air 3S Battery Capacity: 4276mAh. After the battery is fully charged, if not used for 3 days, it will self-discharge to 96%; if not used for 15 days, it will self-discharge to 80%; if not used for 45 days, it will self-discharge to 60%. Slight heating during the discharge period is normal.

You can wait for the battery to discharge automatically, no need to manually release the charge.

There's no damage to the battery this way.

Doing it DJI's way won't kill your batteries In as much as it will allow you to do it. by letting a BMS do your job. 45 days above storage will damage the battery. It wont destroy it instantly but it will certainly lessen the amount of cycles you will receive from your battery. If DJI would simply provide chargers in the box that provide the storage option their customers would not only have a better understanding of why this is ideal but would enjoy much better battery life.
Of course, The Battery Dept. over at DJI might just take a small hit...SO theres that lol.
If you fly the Drone almost Daily and Know your batteries by "number" Doing it DJI's way is pretty much like my way but you will lose cycles in the end. If you are someone that uses their Drone every now and then and you are charging your batteries to 100 all the time your Batteries will die quickly. If you are charging them up to 100 then putting them away in the case with the Drone till next summer well you most likely will be getting new batteries in the spring.

How did you eliminate the charger as the possible cause of the battery swelling? I'm definitely hoping its not the charger simply due to the amazing convenience that it offers.
