I think you tried to avoid flying over buildings for minimizing the possibility of any signal problems...

I'll be in south Hungary in two months and plan on getting my Mavic with me. Any advice for a fellow drone pilot?

Yes, don't fly in cities! It is illegal, in my understanding, in every city in the world!

Did you have permission and a flight certificate from that country?
Is your insurance valid over there?

At the moment, do not need permission or certificate for hobbyists. But a law has been drafted, to be law in July that requires permission, etc.

It is not illegal per se in most cities. Generally, don't fly over people and/or buildings, etc

I'm going to Italy next week, no-fly zone over Rome or Milan, however I can fly most places in the Amalfi coast and Tuscany

I would say, it is safer to fly in the south of Hungary then near the parliament in Budapest
