the wording for the transitional competency requirements has been amended in paragraph B3.2.7.1 and paragraph B3.2.7.2 this is for pilots operating under standard/permission /PFCO based permissions that were issued prior to 31st December 2020 and also pilots operating under OSC permissions

So, if I read that correctly, as a PfCO holder with operator ID, I now have to get a flyer ID as well. Flyer ID has to be granted after 15 December....

it would seem that everyone who flies a drone will now need a flyer ID no matter what other qualifications they have as the new A2 Cof C and GVC are now linked to your flyer ID

i suspect that it was a operational error ,they suddenly realised ,that in order for the RAE s to get the A2 Cof C ,or GVC on line assessments for the applicant to be verified by the CAA so that they could sit the exam then that form needed to have a current flyer ID number for it to be valid
and its quite possible that there were people with PFCOs or OSC permissions ,that had not had to take the flyer ID test since it came out

there are two basic things to consider ,when it comes to the drone flying regulations ,one is the operator ID ,and that is a requirement to register the person who owns the drone with the CAA so in the event that a report is submitted to them then they are able to know who the drone belongs too
this has a bearing ,if the owner knowingly allowed the person in charge of the drone ,to fly the drone without a flyer ID ,so the flyer ID is linked to the pilots qualifications not the operators ,you can own a whole stable of drones without ever having flown one ,so if you let someone else fly your drone, make sure they have a flyer ID before you do so

It looks to me like the CAA want a system where a flyer ID is something everyone with a drone has, tied to a specific person and all formal qualifications are linked to that number.

Operator ID seems unused in the scheme of things.

It makes sense in a way but leaving it a bit late bringing changes out with 2 weeks to go (fewer if looking at working days)
