Can i register as a recreational flyer first, then get certified for commercial with the same drone?

I just got a Mavic Air 2, and will soon take the certification test for commercial use. I would like to recreationally use my only drone until i am ready for the test. i will not use the drone commercially until i am certified.

Can i register for the recreational exception and then later take my test and have the same drone commercially registered?

I looked at the faq on the FAA site, and read the threads here.

Yes. But you will receive a new FAA number to get affixed on your drone...and a separate number for each drone you fly under 107.
