Has anyone watched this video yet where a woman stole someones drone and then called the police?
It really burns me up because not only did she steal it but she boasted about what she did and she lied to police making a false report in an attempt to get someone into trouble. I really hope the guy pressed the issue with the local PD. There's no justification for anyone to behave in this manner.
We are advised by the FAA not to fly over 400 feet, and anything under 500 feet is trespassing, so we really have no legal place to fly in populated areas, or any legal recourse if a particular homeowner gets riled up and calls the cops.

This is what drives me nuts. The people who cite privacy, yet don't seem to have any issue whatsoever with all the other actual intrusions on their privacy. With those things they simply shrug their shoulders and live with it, but because of the mania/paranoia that gets whipped up by just a word...drone...suddenly many are on a personal crusade against anyone who happens to be using one.
And as far as privacy goes. I live next to a real POS. I could be a NYT best selling author if I jotted things him and his girlfriend have done down into a book. Two years ago he installed surveillance cameras all over his house. If you walked into a casino you'd be watched by less cameras than this guy put up. One of them he mounted on a corner of his house that should aim across his property if his concern was truly his own safety, but instead it was pointed the opposite direction, directly at my pool where my pre teen daughter and her friends frequently spend time. I traveled every avenue I could seeking a legal solution to get him to stop perving on my children and wife. There was nothing I could do to get it to point elsewhere. So what I did was install several panels of lattice standing 10' tall immediately in front of the camera, on my property and planted with clematis and grapes to block his view into the pool. The very day I blocked his sight into my pool, he climbed a tree and installed ANOTHER camera way up in the tree to see over the obstacle I placed in his way so he could continue voyeuring. I went again down the legal route insisting this had to demonstrate his true intentions but still got no relief. So I went to staples and had an 8' long 2' tall banner printed, essentially alluding to his being a pedophile and placed an extension on my obstacle to hang the banner, facing his property. Sure enough, hours later he and his girlfriend called the police on us....again. The police came and I was expecting to have to take the sign down. However, the officer stood in his backyard and read the sign. Looked up into the tree and spotted the camera. He asked my neighbor if he put that camera up there. My neighbor replied that he did to which the police responded "then go pound sand" and they promptly left. The camera remains with nothing I can do about it even though it's readily obvious it's meant just to spy on my young daughter but my sign remains too for all their company to enjoy and question them as to why it exists.

umm, can someone enlightened me on the meaning of "Get out of Dodge" ? is Dodge the places name or ???
I thought that from 85ft to 400ft was public airspace?
Aren't Google Earth overhead photos are taken from miles up, space even?
If this happened to me I would go out back every day and a do a little strip tease by the pool. After he gets an eye full of hairy man dancing on his video maybe he'll stop.
Does anyone in the forum know if a local jurisdiction or law over rides the FAA restrictions and if so, how would a person find out that criteria? It only makes sense to be a courteous and respectful captain of your craft if we want to enjoy the freedom of flying. Is there anything you are aware of in the local or national level to educate people about the acceptability and rights of Drone owners. It makes sense that both sides of the fence should have an understanding of their rights ( assuming common sense is in play ).
You can shine a laser at the camera and it will attempt to adjust the exposure towards the dark side, rendering it useless. You can also aim an IR illuminator at the camera. This will blank it out totally at night and may also negatively affect the daytime exposure. I have a spare IR illuminator and cams on my house, so I'll give it a go and see what happens during the day. I expect it'll just be a bright spot but if it sees the IR LEDS it's going to wash out the footage as well.
Right, my understanding also is that the FAA governs all airspace from the ground level up, including your property. Which means to me that if you fly safe and according to their restrictions and codes you could fly in and around private property. Now I'm not suggesting or condoning you do that but this speaks a lot toward the uncertainty of where our hobby/sport is at the moment in regards to the information that is out there, especially for non-drone users. Well, my neighbors are having a great party...think i'll go check it out from 200ft.(I'm not a lawyer, and I'm probably wrong...)
The supremacy clause basically says the federal laws take precedent over local and state laws: Supremacy Clause - Wikipedia
The only bans that the FAA has signed off on that I know of are flying in National Parks, in prohibited airspace, and "hot" restricted airspace. All the local laws shouldn't be enforceable because the FAA controls the airspace. The locals can pass laws forbidding you from taking off and landing in an area, but the FAA is in charge of the airspace, which starts above ground level.
Of course there haven't been any precedent-setting court cases (the chicken coop guy that people use to justify 85' didn't set a precedent), and what happens when someone builds a house? Do they need to get FAA approval? After all, they're entering the airspace. Note that in the case of antenna towers, that is exactly the case. So the FAA really never did a good job of defining airspace, and now that "navigable" airspace includes areas covered by UAVs it got even messier.

YES Kona, that is you!
You have to understand that this is a forum for international users and some countries do not have exactly the same sayings and rhetoric as other country's.
Get out of dodge is basically a comment to mean get out of there quickly without being seen, I'm sure there is a better way to explain it, but that's generally what it means.
Has anybody had the cops call on them by neighbor because they don't like your drone?
Does anyone in the forum know if a local jurisdiction or law over rides the FAA restrictions and if so, how would a person find out that criteria?
That was solid statement from the cops. Wish/hope more cops felt that way.Hi all,
Yes, I had the cops called two day ago on me as I was flying around my Grand Kids neighborhood. I was following all the streets and
chasing my Grand Kids (150' high) playing with them........well the next thing I know the cops roll up at one of the neighbors front door.
They go inside and talked to them, after about 10 minutes the cops come out. At that time I was not flying around so I decided to walk over and ask if they were called about the drone, he said yes. So.........I asked if everything was okay with flying it.
The response I got was "Once you step outside your home ALL expectations of privacy is gone". That is what he told them and me.
The owner of the house that called said he could see the drone in the air (150' AGL) and it made him mad because it could be spying on him
in his back yard.
Well that ended great.
Location Frederick, Maryland.

Forget the little lasers just get a high power laser and burn those the suckers sensors out, no evidence left behind and no need to have anything permanently mounted.
