Sorry if the question sounds noob, but is this app necessary? What does it actually do and is there a big difference between DJI Assistant 1 and 2?

I've not flown for quite a while now. But I've been hearing this app mentioned many times. But it does not seem to be a compulsory app, unlike DJI Go4.

Dji Assistant stays in ur computer, for me it is essential, u can connect ur drone to update firmware, remote firmware, roll back firmware too, i have used it a few times, it is also used to calibrate the camera sensors

It is not needed unless you have a particular need (vision sensor calibration required, firmware update issues with app, or need to download detailed aircraft logs).

I have been able to update the MP firmware via my WiFi system. I have never used DJI Assistant.

Those that have trouble updating over WiFi usually will have to do it running DJI Assistant 2 on their computer with computer plugged into their MP
