I’m a newcomer to this. So far I’ve been (mostly) going to great lengths to avoid flying around people to avoid conflicts (and to avoid disturbing anyone). I’ve been in a few areas with people in the vicinity, and they’ve looked, but mostly haven’t commented.
I have had one verbal encounter so far. I was getting ready to photograph a sunset, and a young (20-somethings) couple walked by on their way to lounge on the grass together. As they passed, one of them asked, “is the government spying on us?” It was said jokingly, but I think still telling, as this is the image some people have of these.
I agree with what’s been said - the general public has a perception based on the limited information they have, which is often news about the bad actors, and the sensationalized stories in the press. The more they’re exposed to the positive aspects, the better.
