With the drone sightings flying over New Jersey and getting people upset, I'm concerned about fly here in Delaware.
All I need is to have some "Karen" start yelling DRONE, DRONE, and the trouble will start.
No, I don't fly at night, so I'm more visible at day, but then again, if I fly high enough.....well, what they can't see won't hurt them.
There's always something to screw up flying.

To my neighbors in Maryland, use caution guys and girls.

So, in essence, you'd let some hype in New Jersey affect what you, LEGALLY, do in Delaware?

If I could fly my drone, legally, at my house, I'd do it.
(I live in restricted airspace)

Texas Gulf coast area around Galveston and the Houston Ship Channel, has unidentified drones flying, some have seen them over NASA and the extensive petrochemical complexes. Texas is taking a serious stand on these incidents.

Fly friendly.

I feel the same way. I am in South Texas in a rural area so it’s not super condensed in population and people tend to never look up out here. However I am very tactful while flying even prior to this massive drone sighting issues. I just don’t like anyone to know I am an eye in the sky. I have one neighbor that would probably totally have a melt down. So I fly early in the morning before they’re up and very discreetly. Luckily I have the mini pro 4 which is super elusive as opposed to my Mavic 3 P. Anyway hopefully these drone sightings don’t screw up all of our flying capabilities going into the future.

These Drone sighting stories are designed to create more restrictions for us Dronies. You have a mini so unless you use the extra time batteries that push your drone over the 250 limit you still have plenty of time to enjoy your Drone in the future . If you own a Mavic I would tell you to take the pics and videos of the places you would like too NOW. The FRIA's and AMA fields in your area may not have great subjects to photograph and if you own a heavier drone thats is the only place you will be allowed to fly it. Unless you have a part 107 cert. and then you will probably need some sort of paperwork. while some will say that this cannot happen I will tell you that stories of Lights in the Sky scaring the populous is quickly taking us in that direction! and wouldnt you know it thats what the government wants to do with us anyway.

Agree 100% with your conclusions... NEWS tickertape on SKY this afternoon highlights the fact that a certain outspoken individual has added his two penn'orth by saying there will be a "...shoot down..." policy adopted soon.

One would think that some police department or the military, or the FBI would just take pictures of these drones with a FLIR camera to finally identify what they are. unless they don't want people to know. I have seen pictures of a C-117 approaching at night that was eight miles away and the image was tack-sharp.

I am surprised that an experienced FPV pilot has not taken a challenge to fly near one of these and get photos of the actual drones being spotted. They would have the range and ability. The latest articles I've seen is when a police helicopter tries to get close, the lights go off and they disappear. An experienced FPV pilot would probably have a better chance at getting a view of one of them with their speed and agility. Not saying it would be legal, but they would have a better chance than the police chopper. Maybe they should team up with some higher caliber FPV pilots to get the job done with coordination with the police.

it sure seems like most of these sightings are of multiple drones in formations

which is not something a Mavic or Mini owner can easily accomplish with the fly app

Are these actually drones? I thought one was hovering over me in Eastern Virginia the other night. Wow, they're here, too!? Then it sped off. Then the unmistakable whoosh and roar of the F/A-18 made me chuckle. If the loudest, fastest, baddest stuff out of NAS Oceana can appear to hang like a drone, anything can.

What concerns me is the call to shoot 'em down. We don't even know what we're looking at, but "leaders" now want the authority to start plunking them? 🙄 Folks have lost their minds.

I don't agree with shooting down anything. As if you remember, there were not calls to shoot down these drones immediately. It is only after a couple things happened that a few (not many) wanted to shoot down the drones: 1) After they started running and hiding and evading; 2) After it because more or less (but not guaranteed) they are not an immediate threat; 3) As a last resort because it is becoming apparent there isn't any other alternative since it seems like we have tried everything and 4) We can be pretty sure there are no humans on board.

Either way, you may have to take a risk. Wait for the time is right. Maybe it's out over the ocean or in a sparely populated area. Maybe you determine the best way to disable it rather than destroy it. Shooting down doesn't always mean using a Sidewinder form an F16. Definitely not the civilians or the police but maybe it's an option for the military. And some people who either have to do something or get off the pot. Asking to shoot it down will end up being one person's final call. Let's not pretend like civilization will end if we shoot down something completely unknown. As long as the President decides, I will stand by his decision. Better the military take one out in a controlled fashion before a rogue citizen snaps and go after it. I would prefer we don't but if we continue to be lied to and stand out with our thumbs, I'm going to change my mind soon. this country has no problem making mistakes, we have a long history of making some pretty tragic self-inflicted fatal mistakes....not much has changed.

Certainly you're not suggesting we might shoot at aliens and regret it? I believe anyone who wants to completely rule out shooting it down probably knows what really is going on or doesn't care to ever find out. Just a few thoughts off the top of my head.

If any Drone pilot was gonna come forward and apologize for doing it the first time, I am sure the media scared the you know what out of him or her, even if they were flying legal the first night.
Now we have a area being inundated with Drone pranksters. Someone will eventually get caught, at first it will just be some poor guy with his mavic trying to take a picture, BUT eventually they will find the kids or persons with fishing rods and lights strapped to his or her Drone. its only a matter of time if they keep it up.
My biggest hope is that when they do, the FAA actually reviews the footage and finds out they really can't find anything to fine them for, Now that would be a hoot! LOL.

Here it comes. Congress is weighing in. So many people in this forum claim Congress makes all the rules and we love for that because every rule they create makes sense in the name of the safety and the FAA is just a bystander doing what they are told. Listen to Congress starting at the 3min mark. Half of what he says he has no idea about it and he insists more rules are on the way.

If anyone has been unclear about state and local law enforcement enforcing federal drone laws, I hope you are happy because now it's going to happen for real. Up until now, they were more or less powerless; I hope that is clear to everyone. If they do something now, it's out of turn and it's exigent circumstances but in 2025, it will be their power and privilege to insert themsevles even though they won't have the experience or training or the right motivation to deal with law-abiding drone flyers.

Gosh, I knew this was going to happen one day but I really didn't expect the hobby to come to such a sudden and abrupt end; to turn the corner so drastically in dramatic fashion. This Christmas, DJI will sell exactly zero Mavic 4 Pro drones, I don't think anyone can justify spending $5000 for something that can land them in jail, can be seized, and is subject to the unknown rules and restrictions that no one can predict. If you try to ship a new Mavic 4 Pro into the US past customs during this "crisis" you've got some balls.

In the second video, it's already happening. State police caught some people flying a drone and a bunch of folks were chased, arrested/detained and their equipment confiscated. No probable cause.

The only report of a formation over NJ turns out to be an image taken from a social media post from an April Texas event where a formation of drones were used during a ceremony; said image then repurposed to be "from NJ" ... lol. Again, mass hysteria and people looking for their 15 seconds of fame.

ps: the words "a large number of drones reported" does not mean formations were seen. English is a tough language to learn.

If it is mass hysteria, then its been expertly created and stoked by agents and contractors of the federal government.

If these things were alien or if they wanted to be secret, they would not have flashing lights going off all over them. Just think about that for a moment.

This kind of thoughtful commentary is EXACTLY what has been missing from this whole drama. 👍
