Flying in NYC & NJ

Hello fellow pilots !
I will be visiting NYC for a week and would love to take some amazing shots of lower manhattan.

From what I've googled so far I understand it's almost impossible to legally fly. Due to NYC restriction which forbids any drones in the whole NYC. However there are countless drone videos on the internet.

Also AirMap app doesn't show much space out of the circles in the area.
Do you have any personal experience ? Where to take off and where to fly the drone for best shots ?

I am not a US citizen and don't want to get fined or worse.
Any advices ?

It is dangerous to fly near lower Manhattan unless you know what you are doing.

There are many, many helicopters, especially in summer.
